Newtec Certifies First Authorised Repair Centre In Eastern Europe

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 09:04 AM PST

NPO SvyazProekt (NPO SP) has signed a landmark deal with Newtec to become its first, third party, repair centre for Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries. The agreement will cover all warranty and post-warranty repairs of Newtec equipment sold in the region.

Nikolay Stolyarov, General Director of NPO SP, stated: "We think it is very important step for Newtec to settle its first regional repair centre. We realise the importance of aftersales support. Our in-depth knowledge of Newtec products and the Russian region and language will help us to provide the very best support to Newtec customers."
The contract recognises NPO SP as an Authorized Repair Centre (ARC). The company will continue its role as a distributor of Newtec products, but will also handle all Newtec equipment in the region that requires attention.

"The agreement with NPO SP will help us to further increase the quality of customer care that Newtec can offer to its clients in the region" explained Serge Van Herck, CEO of Newtec. "With their high-level expertise and their local knowledge, we know that we can provide an impeccable service to customers in the Russian region whenever it is required."

Up until this point, all Newtec equipment repairs were carried out at Newtec's own production facility in Erpe-Mere, Belgium, or at regional repair services in Newtec Remote Support Centres (RSC). However, this presented a suboptimal solution for customers in different regions, where difficulties arose in logistics. Therefore, Newtec decided to seek partners to carry out 'in-region' repairs and participate in the incident handling process.

In order to meet these requirements, Newtec has introduced a certification process for partners to ensure the highest standard of workmanship and product knowledge. After a rigorous selection and training process, NPO SP proved its ability to meet the strict criteria laid down by Newtec.

The centre will guarantee reduced turnaround time for repairs and will optimize the entire logistic process, as all repairs will be carried out in the region where they are used. Newtec now plans to extend its regional repair centre initiative and is actively looking for partners in other regions to further extend a comprehensive, reliable support infrastructure for Newtec products worldwide, with a first focus on South America and MENA.

Sander Boom, Newtec's VP Customer Services and Production, concluded: "The authorised repair centres present us with a great opportunity to gain access to new regions, to understand the culture and needs of the local area. This in turn enables us to serve our customers to the best of our ability."

Cambridge Wireless announce master class in Wireless Sensing

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 02:59 AM PST

Cambridge, UK, 28 February 2011 – The Cambridge Wireless Sensing SIG in conjunction with the Univ. Of Cambridge Eiffel Project will be uncovering the secrets to success in Wireless Sensing. This half day free event will be taking place at the Computer Labs, University of Cambridge on the 7th April 2011, and is supported by the Discovering Start-Ups Project, an initiative funded by EEDA to support and showcase start up companies.

This master class will debate openly about the challenges of growing a company and the business issues faced and how these were addressed and resolved, their problems, and how they overcame them.

Kevin Coleman, Project Director for Discovering Start-Ups said, "The programme is delighted to be enabling events which will help businesses understand the growth issues that companies face. The conflicts that can occur between the need to develop the technology and the need to develop the business have to be tackled and this is an ideal opportunity to work through the issues."

The presenters at this event, Dr.TapaniRyhänan from Nokia Research, and Paul Green from Arkessa, will take an in depth look at real life opportunities in implementing sensing technology, and expose the barriers preventing the development from taking place.

"With the cost of sensors reducing there is an increasing tendency to deploy more field devices over a greater area. This means that more effective remote communication is required and the real challenge becomes how to make sense of 'too much data'. Coupling such facilities with remote visual verification increases operational effectiveness and creates an interesting added dimension to the sensing environment" says Paul Green from Arkessa.

The audience will have their opportunity to make suggestions, ask questions, and put forward solutions to these obstacles too. In an interactive panel session with the speakers after the presentations, all the information put forward will be captured by a mind mapping technique that has been developed by the University of Cambridge.

"We want the audience to have this information. By using this mind mapping technique, the audience will be able to take the ideas away and apply them to their own situations" says Dr. Dirk Trossen from the Eiffel Project, University of Cambridge, who is a regular user of this technique.

Guaranteed to stir ideas, this joint event between the Cambridge Wireless Sensing SIG and University of Cambridge Eiffel project is free to attend.

Help needed for PC-controlled Wireless Notice Board on USART

Posted: 27 Feb 2011 04:22 AM PST

Hey guys,
I'm doing a project on wireless notice board, and my codes are in assembly language
1. The wireless module is zigbee, and it's from pc to PIC,
2. The display is dot-matrix and data will be taken from EEPROM to be displayed
3. Only one way communication using USART from Zigbee to PIC6f628A
4. PIC will receive new data whenever available from ZigBee and store in EEPROM
5. The PC will be sending data through a ZigBee transmitter to the receiver.

So, currently I've got my display unit to work and everything, and can display 128 characters. All of which is pre-loaded into the EEPROM.
I'm having trouble with the communications part. How do I use USART to receive a data string and store into EEPROM one byte at a time? Plus I don't want to do the polling method.

Attached is the codings that i've written.
1. The original code is working fine and i need to embed the USART part into it
2. The Usart RC file is the one I've written for serial communication with ZigBee that needs to be embedded.

The code should work as: Displaying out data from EEPROM and when new data is received, it will take it and store into EEPROM and then start displaying all over again. Please help. Thanks

Hello everyone, I have a couple of questions for you
1- I'm working on a back-filling of a causeway in the sea, can I use salt water in watering for compaction or is it necessary to use fresh one, form a scientific point of view?
2- The consultant always asks me to remove stones bigger than 1/3rd the thickness, what is its effect scientifically on compaction? and is this proportion a rule of thumb ?
thanks

new or old GRE which one shall i take?

Posted: 27 Feb 2011 01:57 AM PST

hey everyone!
I have to give GRE exam but i am confused which one shall I give new or old pattern. I am not taking any coaching that means i am preparing myself, so which one will be easier for me? I think it's the old one because antonyms and analogy section can be easily answered by craming and mathematics section will have only one correct answer which will help save time. What do you think?
But the revised pattern's cheaper for august. Could it be that for the first time they will put a bit simpler paper( I know, am just hoping)

ALCHEMY also focuses on the implementation of Waste Management and Rural Engineering principles. Contriv-ware , the open hardware and software competition , is going to be a perfect platform for the innovators to display their talent. Not only this ,the gaming instinct of each of us is bound to get a boost with ‘ Back To Bedlam’ presenting all time favourites including Counter Strike, NFS Most Wanted ,FIFA, Age Of Empires and Warcraft. Even a pre NIMBUS event of ‘Junior Einstein’ a model making cum exhibition competition, made everybody witness a first time interaction between the institute and school students.
The other highlights of the technical extravaganza include exhibitions by Intel and by Dr Iqbal Ahmad on miniature engineering along with the demonstrations of Infinity Mirrors , the water screen and the awe striking and ever glistening LED cube . Apart from this ‘Wall Graffiti’ and the very unique concept of ‘ Sand Animation’ along with laser and bubble shows are actually going to be very interesting to witness. The presentation on fireflies and ‘Robotica’ encompassing robo design and robowars are all going to feed the curiousity of the minds having that a technical bent. Even the adventure sports and ‘ Battle of Bands ‘ are going to rock the stage!
