Project Presentation on Monday. Posted: 27 Nov 2010 11:19 AM PST Hey, new to the forums. Basically, I'm in my second year of my Electrical Engineering course. For my Project I have decided to do research into Avionics and how Avionics has played a crucial part of the safety of flight these days, but i've came to a dead end, I'm stuck for ideas. My presentation of the subject is due on Monday and at the minute on my presentation I have 8 slides, these slides being about, an introduction to the subject, history of Avionics, why Avionics is used and also different systems. Knowing that quite a few of my class mates have done some sort of practical and I haven't makes me think that with this research project, I can't achieve good grades. I'm totally lost for ideas about what else I could talk about and feel I wont be able to talk for ten minutes (how long the presentation has to last). Basically I was just wondering if anyone would be able to give me a bit of guidance on the subject, would be much appreciated. :p |

Posted: 27 Nov 2010 09:56 AM PST I know that we have a lot of programmers here who would love to work on projects. I have an idea for all of you. Can we have a group of programmers here who can develop a CE-Conference Box for our forum which is better than the existing one. Please share your ideas & suggestions. PS: I just have this idea. I am clueless right now on how we should start working on this. |

Our experience of organizing CrazyEngineers Day Celebrations! Posted: 27 Nov 2010 08:24 AM PST CEans, First of all, a big thank you to all those who became the part of CrazyEngineers Day celebrations on November 26. CE is now 5 years old, over 85k engineers strong and reaches to over 180 countries across the globe. We had initially planned to Celebrate 5th anniversary in various parts of the world by asking CEans from their cities to gather and celebrate together. However, the plan was then changed to celebrating together online. Newsletters were sent, announcements were made, our CEans wrote blog posts to inform people about CrazyEngineers Day, we sent PMs, invited our old members back and so on. Just two days before the D-day, a new idea popped up - Organizing A Quiz Competition. We had just few hours to set everything up and also make it interesting. The biggest challenge was to come up with questions for which the answers were not found directly by Googling! We found out that it was a real challenge. So we decided to keep a mix of questions and believe that we did come up with nice set of questions. We had to drop few audio/visual questions as not everyone would have access to video/audio streaming (especially those who login from their offices). It literally worked day & night for two days and finally got the questions ready just few minutes before the online gathering time. :) I wish we had gotten the quiz idea few days ago; we'd have done a much better job. As the clock struck 5 and CEans started flooding in; we started monitoring the server. Note that we run CE in 'cloud' (know cloud computing?) and we were 100% sure that there won't be any server issue no matter how many CEans logged in simultaneously. But we neglected an important part of CE - The CE Conference! CE Conference is Ajax powered. In simple words, it only fetches the data from the server, thus eliminating the need of refreshing the whole page. For the CE-Day, we had enabled the Conference for all the visitors which caused the server to be pinged every 5 seconds for all the members. That caused the server load to shoot up within just few minutes before we could take any action. Unfortunately, the server broke down and we had to reboot it, thus making CE unavailable for about 2 minutes. I had to phone our server administrators in the USA to fix the issue. These are the types of issues, that aren't easily identified. By the time we identified the correct issue, the server had to be rebooted two more times! However, CEans did not give up! I am really surprised by the love, passion and patience you all showed when CE went down. Thank you for not giving up! Finally, the issue was identified and CE was back to Rock! The Brain Twister Contest went live and we all had lot of fun monitoring and responding to threads! Oh well, we'd have loved to share this with you -- ![]() C -> Chocolate Delight :p E -> Honey Almond :p |

Answers To The Brain Twister Contest Posted: 26 Nov 2010 09:44 PM PST 1. Identify the Company whose logo's 2 letters form a direction marker symbol. Answer: FedEx: ![]() Note, E & x "Form" a direction marker symbol (arrow). Subway has two letters that have direction marker letters. 2. What is the number of lit candles in the CE at Candle Light? Answer: 123 :) 3 Identify the 2 scientists in this picture. Answer: Left: Edison, Right: Faraday. 4. Following is a famous quote from a superhero movie. Identify the quote & the superhero. Answer: "With power comes responsibility" by Spider-man. The word 'Great' was removed to add twist. :) This can be solved with column transposition method (check letters in alternate columns). We had specifically asked you to identify both the quote and the superhero. 5. In order to ensure that one forecast is correct, how many different forecasts must be made of 5 football games? Answer: 243 Forecasts. We will have to consider each game separately, because each game may be won, lost or drawn by one of the teams. Therefore there are 3 possibilities in every game. The first game has 3 possibilities and for each one of the possibilities the second game has 3 possibilities. Therefore there are 9 possible forecasts for the first 2 games. For each of 9 forecasts of the second game, the third game has 3 possibilities, which makes it 27 forecasts and so on. Therefore for 5 games there are 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 = 243 Possibilities. 6. Name the instrument used in electrical engineering invented in 1771 that is named after its inventor. Answer: Galvanometer. It is a type of ammeter: an instrument for detecting and measuring electric current. It was named after Luigi Galvani. [Note: This question is being retired from the Quiz. We found out that our source for answer was not correct.] 7. - The most number of users ever online on CE was A. - There are B habitable floors in the tallest building in the world - The elder Google co-founder got married in Year C. - There are D chapters in the 4th book written by a famous British billionare lady author. - This famous brother-in-law of co-founder of Sycamore Networks & DCTI (Massachusets Institute Of Technology) got is degree in electrical engineering in year E Answer: A = 860 (Most users ever online was 860, 26th November 2010 at 05:11 PM.) B = 160 habitable floors in Burj Khalifa (Wikipedia Information under Technical Details) C = 2007 : The elder Google Co Founder Larry Page married Lucinda Southworth at Richard Branson's Caribbean island, Necker Island in 2007. D = 37 chapters in J.K. Rowlings "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" E = 1967 was the year when Infosys founder Narayana Murthy obtained his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. So, A+B+C+D+E= 860+160+2007+37+1967 = 5031 8. What does the encircled symbol in this picture indicate - Answer: Class 4 SD RAM. Information: http://www.crazyengineers.com/forum/...osd-cards.html (Still need a reason to keep yourself updated via CrazyEngineers? ;) 9. Answer to this Question is here: Follow the instructions. Answer: Well, this was the real twister for all of you. If you followed that page, you'd see a big 'Open Source' logo. But at the bottom, it mentioned it wasn't that easy. If you looked at the title of the page (that is the top of your window), it said "Follow The Instructions". The instruction was clear - "Open Source" and you had to open the source code of that page! Once you opened the source code, you had to scrawl down (we intentionally left lot of white space in there ;) ) and at the bottom, you'd see the answer - "CE Rocks!" We hope you enjoyed the Quiz :D Discuss the answers in following thread: - http://www.crazyengineers.com/forum/...iscussion.html |
