The company has recently launched FLY MV 130 Dual SIM phone in India. Let's review this phone and find out whether this phone is worth the price.

Attachment 25

First Impressions: This 'bar type' phone comes with a metallic finish which looks stunning. The hotkeys this phone has give it a pricey look, but the phone isn't pricey.

Dual SIM Phone: This is a dual SIM phone with GSM+GSM support to help you remain connected with two networks at a time.

FM Radio: This phone has an internal FM antenna and lets you enjoy FM without needing to attach headphones to turn the radio on. Good feature!

Bluetooth: This phone has bluetooth 2.1 to help you transfer files to and fro from any BT enabled device.

Weight: This is a lightweight phone that weights just 90gm with the phone battery.

Battery: The phone has a 1000 mAh battery that will last upto 3 days on normal usage.

Memory: While the internal memory of this phone is limited just to 294.5kb, you can expand the memory to upto whooping 8GB with the help of MicroSD card!

Phonebook: The phonebook supports upto 1000 contacts. Enough for average, non-business mobile user.

Display: This phone's got 5.1 cms TFT screen that displays 65K colors.

Fly CG-588-X-Life QWERTY Phone Reviews & Price In India

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 04:03 AM PDT

The European Fly mobiles launched its Indian operations in 2005 and has recently launched a Full QWERTY, dual SIM phone in India. Let's take a look at this phone and find out whether the phone is worth the price.

Attachment 24

First Impressions:
The Fly CG 588 X-Life phone is a full QWERTY keyboard phone with a black metallic finish. The phone looks stunning with the number-pad specially marked in red. Very useful and handy while dialing the numbers. The phone has a bright LCD screen. Overall the phone looks good. The phone is very lightweight, with only 95 gms.

Dual SIM, Dual Network:
This phone has CDMA+GSM support as against the standard GSM+GSM support. I think this is a welcome feature. Those who want to use CDMA plan will find this convenient.

FM Radio & Recording:
As expected, this phone supports FM radio and facility to record directly from the radio to the microSD card.

Battery & Talk-Time:
The CDMA gives you about 5 hours of talk time and GSM gives you about 4 hours of talktime. Thanks to the 1500 mAh battery that lasts long!

Camera: This phone has 1.3 mega pixel camera and I'd not expect quality photographs from this phone. Yes, you can capture video with the camera.

Phonebook: The phone book only supports 500 contacts along with photo identity. Well, a bit of a disappointment in this section, but the photo identity calling feature is very handy during dialing and taking the calls.

Other Special Features: 3.5 mm Audio Jack, Nimbuzz, Snaptu, Dedicated Camera Key. Dedicated Volume Key, SMS 300, Java Games Supported, CDMA USB MODEM, WAP: CDMA2000 1X, Ebook Reader (*.txt file)

Price & Verdict: This phone is available at a price of Rs. 2999/- in India. I think the phone is an okay choice for the price and the features. If you want a QWERTY phone with mucis playing abilities, you can go for this phone. Don't expect too much from the camera through.

Meaning of 'Class' in MicroSD Cards

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 02:20 AM PDT

I was surfing for the information about the 'class' in MicroSD cards. From what I've understood, the Class-X means the microSD card is capable of transfering data at the speed of X MB/S

That is, an 8 GB class 4 MicroSD card is capable of storing up to 8 GB of data and data transfer at the speed of 4MB/Sec.

If anyone's got more information about this, please post in this thread!

Facebook: Friendship Pages

Posted: 29 Oct 2010 11:46 PM PDT

Facebook introduces new kind of pages called "Friendship Pages".
These pages will collect the public wall posts, comments, photos (based on tags) and events that two friends have in common. The idea of the Friendship Pages feature was brought forward by a Facebook software engineer Wayne Kao. The Pages are designed to the tell the story of two friends on Facebook through their shared activity.

"For those of us who have worked on it, the best part is the human side of these Pages. They can bring back memories, conversations and times spent together," says Kao.

Friendship Pages are accessible from under the main photo on a friend's profile Page and via links from related wall posts or relationship stories
The Pages are public to other members so long as they have permission to view both users' profiles.

Samsung Nexus 2 Gingerbread Android 2.3 India Launch, Overview & Price

Posted: 29 Oct 2010 11:34 PM PDT

The rumours are out that Google and Samsung Electronics will announce the Nexus Two phone on November 8, 2010 at a press conference in New York. The phone will be the first one to have Android Gingerbread version 2.3. The phone will start shipping within few weeks in the USA across multiple carriers. If you wish to buy an android phone, you might wait for a few days and find out what Samsung & Google announce.

Arguably, the Samsung Galaxy S is the best android phone available in the market today. It's being said that the Nexus Two will blow the competition off with the brand new OS that's got a refreshingly new skin and awesome hardware competition.

The phone, in my opinion, will be launched in India by the Q1 of 2011 .I expect the price to be around Rs. 30,000 - 35,000/-

VIT ties up with Pennsylvania state university

Posted: 29 Oct 2010 11:34 PM PDT

Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT) from City of Pune has entered into an academic collaboration with the Pennsylvania state university's college of information sciences and technology (IST), US, to facilitate a unique student transfer programme at the under-graduate level of engineering studies.

"The collaborative programme will enable students to complete the first two years of their B.Tech. studies at VIT and the remaining two years at the IST to obtain a baccalaureate degree from Penn state university," said Hemant Abhyankar, vice president, Vishwakarma Group of Institutions.

The best advantage of the tie-up is that students completing their final two years from Penn state will get the US varsity's degree, which will facilitate their post-graduate masters studies in US without the requirement of exams like GRE and Toefel.
The students will also have the option of seeking paid jobs (limited up to 20 hours/week) on campus, if available and if students meet the federal government requirements about eligibility to work on campus. They can also complete a paid IST Internship (wherever available) after their first year at the Penn state.
