Posted: 10 Feb 2011 05:09 PM PST

The Philippines is all set to embrace a futuristic undersea project to rival those in Maldives, Dubai and Fiji, according to a Filipino team of developer and architects, which is set to build an underwater resort hotel in Palawan. According to an article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, construction will soon begin on the resort that will include 24 undersea suites—or pods—called "Anemones." The restaurant will seat as many as 200 people in its 600-square-meter dining area. Also included in the project is a 50-room on-land boutique hotel complete with amenities such as a casino, spa, business center and an underwater restaurant to be named "Starfish."A "Seahorse Science Center" will be built for tourists and will serve as the resort's marine observatory and conservation center.Dubbed as the Coral World Park, this multibillion-peso project will set the record as Asia’s first underwater resort development and the biggest undersea living in the world once the project is completed by 2013. The project, dubbed “Last Frontier Resort,” is expected to bring in a total of $1 billion in investments spread over a 10-year period—an average of $100 million a year which, its proponents hope, will help create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the Palawan. The Last Frontier Resort will be built with submarine technology. When completed, the proposed underwater habitat will be the biggest in the world. he site is owned by businessman and resort developer Steve Tajanlangit. It is made up of a group of seven islands in close proximity to each other, and another group of seven islands outside the main cluster. The resulting 14-island project will be the largest of its kind in the world.
