Database: mySQL and Graphics issue

Posted: 11 Nov 2010 08:06 AM PST

I am creating a database using mySQL and PHP. The database is about solar system having entities star, planets, asteroids, comets with their respective attributes (size, mass, Position, etc). My end goal of the project is to create a graphic user interface which will be just like the solar system with sun in the middle and planets revolving around it. The end product will be in where a user clicks on the sun and it displays the attributes of the sun. Or user clicks on the planet and displays the attributes of it.

Currently, I have no idea on how to do the graphics part. What is the best and the easiest way to solve this issue? What programming language can I use to build the graphics part and link it to the database? Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Networking doubts

Posted: 11 Nov 2010 07:05 AM PST

Guys i have few doubts which i am posting here....please look into them

1. Since routers work at network layer then how can they use TCP/UDP for transmitting routing information
i.e TCP is used by BGP (an exterior gateway protocol)
And UDP is used by RIP (an Interior gateway protocol)

TCP and UDP works at transport layer. Why they use TCP/UDP ?

2. How do we know our application use which protocol.
For example : -Suppose we want to know gtalk uses tcp or udp then how to check it ?

Do we have any owners of Cedia?

AMD is one which is ready to give challenge to Intel;s Atom processor.
According to AMD it is integrating some extra circuitry to its processor so that it bring a higher level of graphics horsepower to small, thin laptop.

AMD announced that its umbrella technology dubbed "Brazos" that comprises two new lines of processors and small laptops.

AMD says,
Quote:

Aimed at designs that typically range from 10-inch to 13-inch diagonal screen sizes, the "Ontario" and "Zacate" line of chips graft AMD Radeon 6000 series graphics technology onto the main processor, or CPU. And that's exactly what may give AMD the edge in performance over Intel's Atom.

AMS is also touting the fact that it graphics silicon support Microsoft's DirectX 11 for boosting gaming and multi media performance.Intel integrated graphics does not support directX 11.

New laptops using the chips are expected early next year.

The Ontario and Zacate processor lines are identical but run at different speeds. They are coming in dual and dual-core versions and have powered envelops of 9 watts and 18 watts respectively. here is the brief view:-

J.K. Rowling Harvard Commencement Speech - 2008

Posted: 11 Nov 2010 04:34 AM PST

J.K Rowling is the first billionaire female author.
She deserves everything that she has today and the credit for it goes solely to her awesome writing talent.
I am a great fan of hers. She is an ounce of inspiration for everyone who are unable to muster courage after they are financially and emotionally broke.

Check out the video of J.K. Rowling's Speech at the Harvard Commencement. (even if you are not a Harry Potter fan ;))

Is it safe to upload photos on the Social Networking Sites?

Posted: 11 Nov 2010 03:37 AM PST

I am left bewildered every time I see people uploading complete photo albums on Facebook or Orkut. The number of photos is sometimes more than 100s. :o
Everybody defends themselves saying that, its the most easy way of sharing photos and its fun getting comments on it.

It's OK to keep one of your own photo as the display pic on your profile.
But why put your relatives & friends there? Whats the need?
Do you find it really 'that' safe to share photos publicly?

Nokia C7 Review

Posted: 11 Nov 2010 01:09 AM PST

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } This is going to be me first review of a technical product. And no I won't be foxing everyone with technical brouhaha. It has been a week since I got my hands on the new Nokia C7. One of the latest 3G smart phones to hit the market. Frankly I was a bit sceptical as the Symbian is a very old OS and Nokia has been losing hold on the smart phone market ever since Android entered the arena.
But I was in for a surprise. The new phones launched have Symbian^3 which is a damn good OS and is meant for capacitative/multi-touch/pinch-to-zoom screens.

The overall look of the phone is quite pretty. It is quite sleek and at 10.5mm thickness is pretty easy to slide in the pockets. It has got a 3.5 inch HD AMOLED touch screen with 640 x 360 resolution. The colours are sharp and screen is pretty bright and vibrant. Moreover with an impressive processor the phone runs without any slag and the touch is very responsive. There are three hard keys beneath the touch panel. A pair of red and green keys for call and cancelling options. Another one in between the two to go to the menu and the home screen.

The left edge has a charging port. The right edge contains the volume and zoom keys, the lock/unlock slider and a camera button. The top edge has a power on/off button, a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB port. There is an 8 MP camera with dual LED flash. The clarity of the camera is quite impressive, though it lacks auto focus. It is capable of recording HD videos of 720p at 25fps and playback of 30fps. The body is made of stainless steel and feels solid. A front vga camera for video calling and skype.

The look of the OS is somewhat similar to the other Symbian versions. There are 3 home-screens which can be customised independently. 5 widgets can be added on each screen. That gives a wide range of functions on the users finger or rather thumb tips.

The main features of the C series is social networking options. Nokia's social networking widget ensures that all the facebook and twitter updates are shown on my screen and I can reply to them from it. The mail client is pretty impressive. Other than that there are options for IM, new feed, RSS feed etc. Since the last few days I have hardly opened my laptop and have checked sites, replied to mails, written posts, chatted on GTalk etc using the C7. You can enable social networking on the contact list. That way you can integrate the twitter and facebook account of the contacts in the phone book.

The latest Ovi maps are compatible with capacitative touch and are pretty impressive. The GPS system has various options like tracking your position, weather, travel planner, navigation instructions for walking and driving to a destination. It also has collaboration with events, burp, lonely planet, bookmyshow, time out, expedia etc that gives the information about events, movies, plays, eateries etc in your city. Burp enables you to search for restaurants within a few km radius of your location. The position tracker is quite impressive and I walked some distance yesterday while keeping it on, and the red dot kept step with me.

The webTV application gives excess to channels CNN, Nat Geo, You Tube etc. Other than that there are a number of softwares and games at the Ovi store that can be downloaded to increase your options. The web browser is quite impressive with multi-touch arrangement. Flash, html, xhtml etc all work on it. And the touch input keys are pretty good. The voice is crisp and clear while talking on the phone and their was no problem. FM transmitter enables you to transmit the song you are paying to an external radio set via a dedicated FM bandwidth. Almost all audio and video codecs are supported.

Overall a nifty device that can do a lot. Sumptuous and striking.
