Questions related to formatting

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 11:26 AM PDT

I have a question in my mind from a long days. So today i am going to ask this.
When we makes a partition and at first if we loads XP in 1st partition and then again if we loads suppose Win 7 in another partition.
Then after somedays if I wan't to remove Win 7 with any other OS, but not to remove XP from is partition.
So if I formats that Win 7 partition with any other OS by keeping the Win XP safe, I found that after formatting Win 7 partition with other OS my XP is also unavailable and only that particular OS is loaded .
So i wan't to know what's the reason of this ?
Is XP performs as Masterboot ?:cean:

Question on power factor improvement by using phase advancer

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 10:08 AM PDT

This article is given in power system book by V.K.Mehta please read this and answer my question:
PHASE ADVANCER:phase advancers are used to improve the power factor of induction motors. The low power factor of an induction motor is due to the fact that its stator winding draws exciting current which lags behind the supply voltage by 90 degree. If the exciting ampere turns can be provided from some other A.C. source, then the stator winding will be relieved of exciting current and the power factor of the motor can be improved. This job is accomplished by the phase advancer which is simply an A.C exciter. The phase advancer is mounted on the shaft as the main motor and is connected in the rotor circuit of the motor. It provides exciting ampere turns to the rotor circuit at slip frequency.By providing more ampere turns than required, the induction motor can be made to operate on leading power factor like an over-excited synchronous motor.

My question is what is this A.C. exciter is? and from where it is supplied power

What You Think About America's Strategy On Outsourcing Companies?

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 09:29 AM PDT

Every time when something wrong goes in US, whole world faces its consequences. Now its about outsourcing. Even the India's giant company, Infosys , too replied that its very serious issue. If all such big companies think like that, then what about small cap companies?
More over a question too arises that why all this companies should depend on only one customer and also importantly only on one solution. In my personal opinion all of them should now try focusing on software development rather than to outsource.
World see's India as arising IT giant, but I don't think that our companies have much internationally acclaimed softwares. I sincerely dont mean that outsourcing is wrong thing but what i want to display are the Uncertainties behind it. Being an citizen, no one will like to see their countrie's economy collapsing due to steps taken by any another country.
I think we have potential to be no.1 in IT, just now we need to capitalize our true potentials.Hope the trained and employed people in IT are listening.
so remember one thing - CODE TO SAVE.

Designing of surface broach tool (help)

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 05:31 AM PDT

hello crazys....
we are working on our B.E project "designing and manufacturing of broach machine for thrust washers".
we are designing a surface broach tool. we're having difficulties in finding the relevant data. Where can i get this data? which books do i need to refer?

what is the helix angle to be considered?. (what is it's effect)
how to decide land , pitch ,length of the cutter, rake angle and other essential parameters?

DATA:
cutting force-aprox. 5 tons.
materials-Copper alloys and Aluminium alloys.
depth of cut/tooth-0.1mm.( total thickness to be removed- 0.5mm)
tolerance-30 microns.
length of cut-85mm.
width of cut-80mm.

Should IITs hire Foreign Faculty?

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 04:13 AM PDT

Facing a massive shortage of well-qualified teachers, the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has mooted a proposal for hiring foreign nationals as permanent faculty members.

IITs have contended that the presence of foreign faculty on their campuses would expose graduating students to globally distinguished professors besides lending a true international flavor in the campuses and reducing brain drain.

Do you think this is a good move?

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 04:05 AM PDT

Google is rolling out a new advertising campaign on Thursday for its display advertising platform. The campaign, called Watch This Space, will run in advertising trade magazines and in other print and online media. The "space" to watch makes reference to the blocks of display advertising users see on the Web pages they browse.

The campaign uses Google's primary color scheme with blue, yellow, red and green advertising "spaces" and their related pixel sizes like 300 x 250 or 728 x 300 in the upper-right-hand corner of each box.
