Find the mathematical equation for a rotating cam and follower

Posted: 09 Sep 2010 11:48 AM PDT

Consider the following moving cam (rotating round bit) with follower (straight rod):

The follower is of fixed length and is attached to a fixed point on the rotating cam while the other end of the follower is guided such that it is always below the center of rotation of the cam.

Solve:
1. Draw a graph for the velocity and acceleration for the x-axis as well as the y-axis for both ends of the cam follower
2. Show your formulation

Hint:
Only if requested ;)

The answer will be posted here in a week or so
Good luck!

Problem with Matlab - GA to solve Transmission planning problem

Posted: 09 Sep 2010 09:33 AM PDT

Dear Sir,

I am trying to use genetic algorithms ("ga(fitness,.....)") command function to solve power transmission planning problem.

The basic steps are (a)to perform power flow calculation using MatPower=>then (b)compute related parameters used as the constraints required to be input to the ga function=>(c)starts GA...(repeats a,b&c until max. number of generation is reached)

My problem is that as the candidate solutions (number of transmission lines to be added to the transmission system) that generated by GA function each time will vary the value of some of the parameters of the constraints inside the GA function input, how can I update the parameters within the ga function but not just use the same constraints values in the whole process of GA?

Thank you if anyone can help.

Posted: 09 Sep 2010 07:21 AM PDT

hey guys,

i'm here sharing the accomplishment of a long time dream,

  TO BUILD A ROBOT!!!

I did it atlast, actually it was me and three more friends of mine who did it. :D :D :D

it is a manually controlled robot car that you can race around
check out the pics... will upload the video clip shortly. ;-)

i am so proud of it... :D

and i'm on the process of developing it into an autonomous one and bring in more changes
will let you know of the developments. ;-)
