Confusion with calculating average lift for duty cycle of a crane Posted: 13 Jun 2011 09:58 AM PDT Well, it's been some time i couldn't turn here but it's always better to late then never. Well i am back with a technical question that i was having a discussion with my team today. This is related with duty cycle of a crane and the formula is (2*HW*ASP*AZ)/(60*V) where HW stands for Avg height or lift, ASP is motion of hook and in cycle per hour while AZ is working hour per day And V is hoist speed. Now Generally we calculate This for constant weight and weight doesn't affect this formula, but if weight varies for instance crane lifts 10Tone having avg lift 3 mtr, Then 7 tone with 5 mtr and 5 tone with 7 mtr at different moment of working hours. then how we are going to calculate avg eight or lift. i was told that we do not need to consider weight but i am still in doubt. so would the avg lift would be just (3+5+7)/3=5mtr as in general we would calculate simply or it would be (as i was doing):-(10*3+7*5+5*7)/(10+5+7)=4.5 approx. please explain your answer. |

Posted: 13 Jun 2011 06:21 AM PDT I am planning to make an electromagnet which can lift atleast 200gm mass. Normally electromagnets are made up by coiling an iron rod and passing a considerable amount of dc voltage through it. Based on this I have few questions. 1 is there any device which convert 220vac to 12vdc & is it possible to increase it upto 220 vdc or should i use separate device for the above purposes and what would be the cost of the device 2.how much dc volts and amps are required to magnetise an iron rod so that it may lift 200gm mass & how much number of coil turns are required. 3 how can I increase the magnetic power of the electromagnet 4 how can I reverse the poles of the electromagnet |

Early Adopters Are Quitting Facebook - Why? Posted: 13 Jun 2011 03:42 AM PDT I've been checking out statistics on various portals that as Facebook is approaching 700 million worldwide users, the traffic in US is dropping - thanks to the new era of Twitter & Yelp. It seems that the early adopters of Facebook are now switching over to the newer forms of social networking. I see it as a perfect example of history repeating itself. First it was My Space that took the world by storm. Then came Orkut which completely invaded few parts of the world and even snatched tons of users from MySpace. Then came the Facebook which literally robbed all social networks in the world and became the #1 social network. However, early adopters of Facebook seem to be quitting. One reason I see is that any time-killing activity, after some time gets boring. People want to enjoy new stuff and this could be a major reason that people don't want to keep their facebook profiles updated. Are you an early adopter of Facebook? How's your experience so far? |
