Air Ejectors (2 of 3)

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 10:14 AM PDT

Air Ejectors (2 of 3)
-An air ejector or steam ejector is a device which uses the motion of moving fluid (Motive Fluid) to transport another fluid (Suction fluid). It is has a wide range of application in steam ejector in boiler condenser, fresh water generator and in priming the centrifugal pump.
-It works on the principle of convergent /divergent nozzle as it provides the venturi effect at the point of diffusion as the tube gets narrows at the throat the velocity of the fluid increases and because of the venturi affect it pressure decreases, vacuum will occur in the diffuser throat where the suction line will be provided.

-The operating medium of an air ejector can be either high-pressure gas or liquid. This is passed through a nozzle and the pressure energy is converted into velocity energy. The high-velocity fluid aspirates the air and the non-condensable gases and the mixture is projected into a diffuser which reconverts the velocity energy into pressure energy.

-Steam is suitable operating medium and is used in the steam-jet air ejector. The steam consumption is controlled by the compression ratio of the air and this factor influences the decision to adopt either single or multiple stage ejectors for a particular condition.
-To meet the requirements when raising vacuum a starting ejector is provided. This is high capacity, high steam consumption ejector, of single stage and without an after condenser.
-A main air ejector with standby unit is usually provided for normal operation. The heat in the operating steam is partially recovered in the condensate which flows through the inter and after coolers.

-If an installation is to operate with a direct cooling system, as is provided by the sea or a river, vacuum as high as 29.2 in.Hg would be expected during the winter months.
-A cooling tower installation will operate at a slightly poorer vacuum than a direct cooled station and this vacuum can usually be handled by a two-stage ejector.

Water jet technology

Hej;) , I m kind of in a big trouble. I'm studying mechanical - industrial engineering and at the time kind of doing my intern in the company that specializes in metal cutting service. and i need a topic for my diploma thesis. i want something about water jet technology, any issue...since my host company doesnt want to give me any task related with it. any suggestions how could i solve the absence of experimental practice. the theoretical part it ok with me. however I dont know how to cover the experimental part. help! ASAP Thanks in adv

Just Civil

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 06:39 AM PDT

I just found this website and really cool wherein civil CEans are challenge in building dams, domes, tunnels, bridges and skyscrapers. They give you some situation, chose materials...just like that...:)
I hope you will learn a lot:)

Pile foundations

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 05:25 AM PDT

now that we've discussed the different types of foundation, lets get to the pile foundation.

lets first understand the first part of a pile.

load from the column gets transferred to the pile cap. the following picture shows a pile cap with the reinforcements.

these pile caps can group one or more pile together. A pile cap is a thick concrete mat that rests on concrete piles that have been driven into soft or unstable ground to provide a suitable stable foundation.

the next picture shows how a group of piles may be attached.

Barn Repair

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 05:18 AM PDT

It was a dark and stormy night that ripped the roof and gates off the stalls that hold Farmer John's cows. Happily, many of the cows were on vacation, so the barn was not completely full.

The cows spend the night in stalls that are arranged adjacent to each other in a long line. Some stalls have cows in them; some do not. All stalls are the same width.

Farmer John must quickly erect new boards in front of the stalls, since the doors were lost. His new lumber supplier will supply him boards of any length he wishes, but the supplier can only deliver a small number of total boards. Farmer John wishes to minimize the total length of the boards he must purchase.

Given M (1 <= M <= 50), the maximum number of boards that can be purchased; S (1 <= S <= 200), the total number of stalls; C (1 <= C <= S) the number of cows in the stalls, and the C occupied stall numbers (1 <= stall_number <= S), calculate the minimum number of stalls that must be blocked in order to block all the stalls that have cows in them.

Print your answer as the total number of stalls blocked.

Line 1: M, S, and C (space separated)
Lines 2-C+1: Each line contains one integer, the number of an occupied stall.

concept explained on transducers

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 01:38 AM PDT

hello friends
i think we forgotten about concept explaining threads
ok now i am giving about transducers i had just studied it now just in brief correct me if i am wrong anywhere

well............,
coming to transducers first we have to learn why we went to transducers
in many cases we have to convert one energy to another energy
let me explain with an example
we have a quantity let it be electronic we have to transfer it but electronic wave transfer gets losses in higher level so we can change it to electrical quantity and transfer it as we in case of measurement too we need these types of goods

now lets see the definition
transducers:The device which converts one form of energy to another energy
as we are more fond on electrical quantities we use mostly electrical transducers
it changed the meaning as
A device which converts any energy to electrical energy is known as transducers
there are many types of transducers like passive transducers and active transducers
here comes the separate definitions
passive transducers: The device which converts any energy to electrical energy with external source i.e..., with another supply
these consists of passive elements like inductors, capacitors, resisters etc...,
Active transducers: The device which converts any energy into electrical energy without any external supply
let me say some examples for these types of transducers
like piezo transducers,electromagnetic transducers etc......,
in between there are many types in them

hope i am clear here and the next continuation will be posted soon as another thread
if i am wrong anywhere please specify them
this thread is left to discuss types of transducers
