Water pollution

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 10:00 AM PDT

There was a time when we used to consider water as God. In any religion or civilization may be Roman, Greek, Aryan or Greek etc we have a God of Water.

Sadly in 21st century we have kept that God for sale in market. We consider water as a consumable commodity which can be bought for money and waste and dishonor it.

There was a time when water was free for everyone now we pay money(Tax) for it. Someday we will pay tax for air too.

So my question is what can we do to control pollution and wastage of natural resources and to change people's attitude towards whole environmental scenario?
What say people?

Is WIPRO CEO's INR. 10 cr/year Salary Justified?

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 07:17 AM PDT

We of course can't influence Mr. Premji's decision, but we can vent out our jealousy by posting in this thread. Wipro has offered new revised package of Rs. 10 crore (Rs 10,00,00,000) to T K Kurien, the new CEO of its IT business. Note that considering the variable component, the salary will vary from minimum 3 crore to Rs. 10 crore, depending upon company's performance. But since the IT boom time is on, I expect Mr. Kurien to do fantastically well in coming years.

Now compare this with the following information taken from Wipro offers up to Rs 10 crore annual package to new CEO - Yahoo! India Finance

According to TCS'' Annual Report 2009-10, company CEO and Managing Director S Ramadorai received Rs 3.61 crore in salary, benefits and perks and commission for the period between April 1, 2009 and October 5, 2009.

Infosys CEO and MD S Gopalakrishnan received Rs 1.01 crore during the fiscal 2009-10, says the company''s annual report.

NIB-1 & NIB-2 Addresses

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 06:59 AM PDT

I was trying to figure out the pathetic browsing speeds I experience on my broadband connection and found out that I'm on NIB-I network. My IP address starts with 59.xx ... and my speeds are thus limited to about 512 kbps.

Someone suggested that if the network provider switches my account over to NIB-2, to have my IP address starting with 117.xx..., I'll be able to get speeds in MB/s. Now apart from the obvious long-forms, I have absolutely no clue about what these guys were suggesting.

My questions are -

1. How do I determine which NIB I'm On.
2. How many NIBs are there in India (is that a stupid question?)
3. How does one switch between the backbones (if at all).

Looking forward to your responses.

Solution For Ejecting Mini CD Stuck in MacBook Drive

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 06:43 AM PDT

It was very stupid of me for not thinking before doing this. I put a Blackberry Curve Mini CD in my MacBook drive. And it got stuck there. It was neither getting detected nor coming out.

For a naive macbook user who is not aware that mini CDs are not compatible with the Mac CD Drive mechanism, this mistake is bound to happen.

I read about force ejecting on the net i.e. Open terminal and type:
drutil tray eject but that didn't work for me.

So, I just what we did is, put a business card inside the slot and pull up the cd and drag it out.
It took 5-6 tries with different angles and then it worked! :D

I hope you never get stuck this way, but if you do; this might help.

Upgrade To Firefox 4.0 On uBuntu Instructions

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 05:27 AM PDT

It might be silly, but I'm not able to figure out how to upgrade Firefox to latest stable 4.0. I've searched the Internet but can't find proper instructions on how to do the upgrade, without losing on the bookmarks, history and settings.

All I know is that I can simply extract the browser somewhere on /home and then create a launcher for it. Does anyone have instructions for the upgrade?

CE - Reviews To CE - Gadgets

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 02:00 AM PDT

I've been thinking of changing the name of CE Reviews section to CE Gadgets (or something similar) to widen the scope of the section and also get CEans to contribute to it.

We will then be able to discuss all the gadgets on the planet. If you support this change, please suggest names we can have for that section.

:)
