Attachments/Picture Upload Facility Is Being Rolled Out!

CEans,

Finally, we're rolling out attachment upload facility for CEans. You'll notice an attachment clip button in your post editor (in advance mode only) once the facility is enabled for your usergroup.

We're currently rolling it out for our top usergroups - CE Lord & Sensei ! :) . Upon getting feedback from them, we'll slowly release it to lower usergroups and finally bring it down to CE- Regular Members, which requires at least 10 posts. This facility will be rolled out to all the usergroups over the next 4-5 days. Updates will be posted in this thread.

That is, CEans will need at least 10 posts on CE Forums to be able to upload attachments, photos and other supported file types.

However, this also means that there will be greater chances of forum getting spam and we are going to need your help to keep CE clean and professional!

NASA Spots Worm Like Alien

News: NASA scientist finds 'worm-like alien life form in meteorite' - Yahoo! News

Looks like NASA's got something that they want people to believe. Dr Richard Hoove claims that he's discovered Alien like form and has challenged people (and other scientists) to prove him wrong. :rolleyes:

New Project Idea For Computer Engineers: SMS Spam Filter

I got this project idea today after receiving another advertisement SMS from Airtel.

Since it is an effective way to reach thousands of people, SIM card companies send SMSes wildly to showcase their new value added services and advertisements.
But, these spam messages sometimes become a problem for mobile users as it fills their inboxes. :angry:

It would be a challenge to design a SMS Spam filter to help all the mobile users avoid spam!
Spam SMS keywords and patterns keep on changing, so some new technique should be applied to do the same.

If anyone of you are thinking of implementing this idea, share your views and opinions and progress with us. :)

File Handling in PHP

Opening and Closing Files
Files are opened in PHP using the fopen command. The command takes two parameters, the file to be opened, and the mode in which to open the file. The function returns a file pointer if successful, otherwise zero (false). Files are opened with fopen for reading or writing.
PHP Code:
$fp = fopen("myfile.txt", "r"); 
If fopen is unable to open the file, it returns 0. This can be used to exit the function with an appropriate message.
PHP Code:
if ( !($fp = fopen("myfile.txt", "r") ) )
    exit("Unable to open the input file.");

What Features Do You Expect in iPad 3?

Apple recently launched iPad 2 on March 2. One of the most remarkable features in iPad 2 is presence of Full HD 1080p video recording through rear camera. It also features iOS 4.3 . I've been wondering what features can we expect in iPad 3?

iOS 4.4, Retina Display, USB Ports and SIM card slot. Or the most awaited MicroSD slot?

C++ Pointers-Concept Explained

C++ pointers are the address variables that are used to access some memory location.

Declaration: int *p;
Here 'p' is an identifier that is used to store some address. The content of this memory address will of type 'int' as we mentioned in the declaration. We use any other data type also as per the type of content to be stored.
So the content of the p will be integer type not p itself.

Lets take an example.
Code:
int a=5;
int *ptr;
ptr=&a;        //ptr now refers to the address of 'a'
cout<<ptr;    //it'll print the address of 'a' in hexadecimal code
cout<<*ptr;  //it'll print the contents of a ie value of the variable a.
So now if we do:
Code:
ptr=ptr+1;
cout<<ptr;
The result is that the pointer variable 'ptr' will be incremented as:
ptr=ptr+(1*size of int)
ie initally if ptr was refering to the memory address say 1000, now it'll refer to the memory address 1002 because size of int is 2 bytes. Here we have added the size of int because our ptr stores the integer value.
Had it stored a float or some other value, we would had used the size of float or the appropriate data type instead.

So now we come to know that we can increment or decrement address value using pointers. But we can increment, decrement or even multiply pointers only with integer values no matter what type of data is stored in it.

I am very interested in developing software. I read the deitel book on C programming.
Book explained a lot on coding.
Now I want to learn how to develop a proper interactive software i.e myob, skype, media player.
what should I do next.Is there a way to acquire knowledge fast on programming?

narayana murthy: I am narayana murthy friends call me as Narayana ,I am studying B.tech 3rd year in EEE branch i always think different and think about making my problems easier ,My target is IES as I never lose any other opportunities coming to my hobbies :chatting on imvu,orkut,fb etc......,and discovering new things my strength is my close friends and weakness is my short temper.

 narayana murthy:i found it in google when I searched for new inventions because i am always interested in projects and new inventions then unknowingly opened the forum and i loved that discussions so i became as an active member

 narayana murthy:i think we had less sources of energy and I have seen many problems about electricity so i am interested to take this trade i love solar projects in my field

 narayana murthy:Coming to this i am still engineering my confidence behind it is my faculty always says to me as you have talent use it so i am interested in IES

 narayana murthy:ya i found a difference before joining CE, i thought I am one of the greatest people but now after seeing all the CEans here, I came to know that I have to learn a lot and I have to improve a lot.
