Posted: 26 Jan 2011 04:16 AM PST O.K,please help me, i need help ASAP i have a little challenge and i have been on it for the past 4 days now. we did an experiment with a thermistor, and ii took the reading of the thermistor both while heating the thermistor, and while it was cooling. (from 20 degree - 70 degree). got my reading, and i plot the graph of Ln R Against 1/T to get the intercept and slope for my A and B R= r A exp(B/T) and i have a non linear graph, i have calculated the non linearity and the sensitivity of this thermistor, but the question for this experiment is "design a model to make this thermistor have a linear characteristic." i have been on it for 4 days now, and am not just heading anywhere.. i need your help sir, how do i go abt it, and how do i calculate the variable i need.... i saw this site http://www.dutchforce.com/~eforum/index.php?showtopic=35150 and even got more confused, because i dnt know what type of thermistor it is. but all i know is the thermistor has a very very thin finger and a plier like shape. please sir, how can you help me.am freaking out and confused |

fonYou: Carrier-Grade Cloud Telephony Posted: 26 Jan 2011 02:02 AM PST Barcelona, Spain; January 26, 2011 fonYou, a global technology company based in Barcelona, today confirmed its first agreement with a mobile network operator. In Cape Town yesterday evening, South African operator Cell C announced the launch of its "MyTools" service a custom-made version of fonYou's innovative Cloud Telephony Service built on fonYou's OMT-9000 technology platform. Confirmation of the deployment is an important milestone for fonYou as it seeks to cement its position as a leader in the integration of Web 2.0 and mobile services. The introduction of fonYou's Cloud Telephony Services allows operators to offer their end customers over-the-top Web 2.0 services such as an online activity register, smart address book, advanced call control features or visual voicemail, accessible through web and mobile phone browsers as well as smartphone and Facebook applications. Through these services, customers can finally take total control of their mobile number. Service features include the ability to blacklist unwanted calls or SMS, set up different voicemail greetings for different callers, manage contacts and messages online, forward voicemails as emails, or set up call forwarding services at different times of the day. fonYou's OMT-9000 is the only carrier-grade technology platform available today that enables mobile operators to compete with the new generation of aggressive, cloud-based models such as Google Voice, Skype or WhatsApp. Fernando Núñez-Mendoza, CEO and co-founder of fonYou, said he believed the OMT-9000 platform would help mobile operators launch "sticky" services and protect their network investment by boosting customer retention. "Operators need to build sticky services around their most valuable asset network access. Our platform can help operators build valuable and popular services that are unique to that carrier and can form a key part of the concept of the "network as a service" [NaaS] business model," he said. Núñez-Mendoza explained that these services are designed for the Web 2.0 generation who are used to managing their finances, travel and shopping online and will now be able to do the same with their mobile accounts. "Our platform gives the operator's customers more control of their mobile service who can call them and at what times, who is allowed to leave voicemails, or when is it appropriate to simply ask callers to send a text and not leave a message," he said. "These self-service features have all been tested on our own showcase operator in Spain and our customers love the control our service offers. We are confident they will be equally popular in South Africa, and with the other carriers that will launch fonYou's cloud services this year," says Núñez-Mendoza. The launch of MyTools is part of Cell C's strategy to strengthen its positioning as innovation leader in this highly competitive market. In September 2010, Cell C launched Africa's first HSPA+ (high speed mobile internet access) network in the 900 Mhz frequency band. The network, which is live in 13 cities across the country, has already won several awards, including the 2010 Mobile Broadband Service of the Year. Cell C is ranked the number one Internet Service Provider in South Africa according to Ookla'snetindex (Ookla is the global leader in broadband speed testing). About fonYou Telecom fonYou, a global technology company based in Barcelona, provides carrier-grade Cloud Telephony Services for mobile operators. fonYou has developed a proprietary technology platform, the OMT-9000, which is connected to the mobile operators' existing core networks and enables them to offer Cloud Telephony Services to their end customers. These services put the end customers in total control of their mobile phone service as they allow them to configure advanced control settings for blocking, filtering or redirecting traffic; set up different voicemail greetings per contact or contact group; and access a complete history of their call records, SMS and voicemails from anywhere and in real-time. fonYou's Cloud Telephony Services are highly attractive both to the customers for the utility they provide as well as to the operators for increasing revenues, market share and as a customer retention tool. In addition, fonYou's Cloud Telephony Services constitute basic building blocks which can be used by operators to quickly construct new products tailored to the needs of specific customer segments. fonYou also operates its own mobile operator in Spain which enables the company to continuously improve its services and products and to gain valuable market insights through its own live customers. I Wanna Be An Engineer - (Billionaire Geeked Out Mix) Posted: 26 Jan 2011 12:51 AM PST Sorry if this was posted already, been quite out of touch with CE. A friend shared this with me. Funny song! Lyrics: I wanna be an engineer so freakin' bad, optimize the things I've always had I wanna be on the cover of PC Magazine, Smiling next to Pentium machines. oh everytime I close my eyes, I calculate a new design yeah....an efficient way to quantify oh ai..I swear my patent would be here...If I was an engineer Yeah, I wound have a show on Discovery, hoping that e-ve-ry.. body in the country would watch me on their HD. I'd probably pull an Orville Wright and a Wilbur Build a plane and take the rudder and dip it in silver. Give away a few smartphones, like, Einstein here have this Take my protractor out and do some mathmatics It's been a couple years since I've been single so you can find me working late and living off Ho Ho's. Brain food for the intelligent, sometimes I like to complement myself for being smart, but you can call me brilliant. Yeah...Call me a geek or maybe even nerd but face the facts, we da ones be ruling this world. Everytime I close my eyes (what cha see, what cha see?) I calculate a new design (uh huh uh huh) oh ye-ah....an efficient way to quantify oh ai..I swear my patent would be here...If I was an engineer ohhh ohhhh....Yeah, I'm an engineer! oohh ohhhh.... I be playin Xbox with some scientists, workin' with geologist maybe ask a girl out and get lucky with little kiss. Or not because I have to...formulate a program in C++ or going back and using Fortran. Toss a few equations in just for the heck of it. Solve my own problem just so I can delineate Yeah, I be comin' on a whole new level. Like comparing HDMI to a coax cable. Sometimes I give directions with Euclidean vectors And transfer files faster on eSATA connectors. ...I know we all have a simular dream to build cantilever beams,...it makes me wanna sing I wanna be an engineer so freakin' bad, optimize the things I've always had I wanna be on the cover of PC Magazine, Smiling next to Pentium machines. Everytime I close my eyes, I calculate a new design an efficient way to quantify oh ai..I swear my patent would be here...If I was an engineer ooh ohhh....("Yeah! Solve it!) Why aren't engineers thinking about entrepreneurship? Posted: 25 Jan 2011 11:26 PM PST Whenever I bring up the topic of entrepreneurship, I get a poor response. I'm not talking about those who belong to business families and have the 'business in their blood', I'm talking about those who don't have any background in business. Engineers are supposed to be the creators and innovators and change makers (at least in my opinion). However what I see is 99.99% of engineering students aim to somehow find employment. Yes not 'everyone' can become entrepreneur but not everyone can be employee as well (got my point?). It just surprises me to see such a cold response to entrepreneurship section on our engineers forum. Have most of us chose engineering just because it's a short-cut to jobs? |
Posted: 25 Jan 2011 11:01 PM PST Heard of earthbag construction??? Earthbag is now widely use for construction of different structures such as home, school buildings etc. The primary material for earthbag construction is the soil which is naturally present in the environment. The soil (or sand) is filled into bags( made of propylene ) and laid into trenches to form foundation. Philippines is now starting to adapt this type of construction. Some schools and clinics in the province are built using this. Aside from it's being environmental friendly it is easy to build and can resist the forces of nature. Philippines which is prone to typhoons and earthquakes really suits this kind of construction. Here are some photos of earthbag buildings: For more info visit: Earthbag construction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
