Posted: 06 Jan 2011 12:42 PM PST :p To the optimist, the glass is half-full. To the pessimist, the glass is half-empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be. :p A priest, a doctor, and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, 'What's with those guys? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!' The doctor chimed in, 'I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golf!' The priest said, 'Here comes the green-keeper. Let's have a word with him'. He said, 'Hello George, what's wrong with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?' The green-keeper replied, 'Oh, yes. That's a group of blind firemen. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime'. The group fell silent for a moment. Then the priest said, 'That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight'. The doctor said, 'Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if there's anything he can do for them'. The engineer said, 'Why can't they play at night?' :p What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechanical engineers build weapons civil engineers build targets. :p The graduate with a science degree asks, 'Why does it work?' The graduate with an engineering degree asks, 'How does it work?' The graduate with an accounting degree asks, 'How much will it cost?' The graduate with an arts degree asks, 'Do you want fries with that?' :p Three engineering students were gathered together discussing who must have designed the human body. One said, 'It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints.' Another said, 'No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections.' The last one said, 'No, actually it had to have been a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?' :p Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.
How it's made - Donuts (Discovery Science Video) Posted: 06 Jan 2011 10:04 AM PST Mmm...donuts! Whether spelled "donut" or "doughnut", these tasty treats are nearly impossible to resist. I am a huge fan of Discovery Science's How it's made series. Find out how yeast donuts and cake donuts are made. Then, head to your local bakery for a fresh dozen! http://www.youtube.com/user/ScienceC...22/i0h2rZWZhBg
Posted: 06 Jan 2011 09:24 AM PST I was shocked after seeing this video: Apparently I don't have much knowledge of history. What is your opinion, CEans?

Run C, C++, PHP, Python, Ruby Programs Online Posted: 06 Jan 2011 08:32 AM PST I was searching for resource to run my programs online. And I found codepad. Codepad is an online compiler/interpreter, and a simple collaboration tool. Paste your code there, and Codepad will run it and give you a short URL you can use to share it in chat or email. Languages that it supports are: C C++ D Haskell Lua OCaml PHP Perl Plain Text Python Ruby Scheme Tcl This facility is particularly useful when we are away from our desktops/laptops and want to execute any program in the above languages. I used it to run very simple programs and it works fine. It detects error too. Here is the link : codepad Try using it and share your opinions here. :cean:
Primary Goal Behind Higher Education: For Knowledge Or Better Jobs? Posted: 06 Jan 2011 08:15 AM PST I wish to know what is the primary motive of candidates who opt for higher education post engineering degree. Is it the want of knowledge OR Better job prospects. Obviously, many would want to say 'both'. If that's your answer, then - 1. Would you go for higher education if you'd be back to the same job/role after completing it? 2. Would you opt for higher education if your company offers better role/position/salary or you find it elsewhere? Let's see what CEans say.
IIM's Can't Manage Their Own Exam & Results. Do They Really Understand Management? Posted: 06 Jan 2011 08:12 AM PST This IS a bold debate topic that should have appeared in our debate section last year. Indian Institute Of Management couldn't manage their own prestigious CAT exam last year that led to lot of problems and confusion among candidates. This year, the CAT 2010 results were leaked on CAT's official website for a brief time. IIMs failed to 'manage' the 'results declaration process' as well. Of course, mistakes do happen, but when it comes to sensitive areas like the conduct of online exam and declaration of results (which is extremely sensitive), IIM's CAT management failed. I'm upset to see that the CAT convener actually is saying that the candidates who saw the result are unethical and they would not want to admit such students. See our debate topic: http://www.crazyengineers.com/forum/...unethical.html What's your take?

| Are the candidates who saw leaked CAT 2010 results unethical? Posted: 06 Jan 2011 08:04 AM PST CAT 2010 Results will be officially announced on January 12, 2011. However, the results were accidentally made available on the CAT official website for a brief period of time. Few candidates got access to the website and saw their scorecards. This has upset the CAT organizers. I stumbled upon following article by Pagalguy - India's leading portal for MBA aspirants: Candidates who saw their CAT 2010 ‘results’ and ‘scorecards’ are unethical, says CAT Convenor | PaGaLGuY.com - India's biggest website for MBA in India, International MBA, CAT, XAT, SNAP, MAT Quoting from the article, Prof Himanshu Rai said - Quote: "This has shown them in a bad light as people. They are certainly not the kind of people IIMs would like to have in their institutes and definitely not the kind of leaders we are looking forward to make in the future," Voice your opinion in this thread. |

Electronics Mini Project: Bluetooth Buzzer System Posted: 06 Jan 2011 04:15 AM PST A Bluetooth enabled buzzer system would be a great mini project for our third/final year engineering students. The system should allow pairing with about 5-8 consoles and indicate the console that sends the first signal. Has anyone tried this project idea?
