Never Give Up-Motivating and Inspiring Article

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 11:44 AM PST

t often happens in our day to day lives that we come across moments which make us think "I can't do it" !
Well really !?

If u can't do it then who can ?

Coming on to failures .. Well i once heard somewhere that in Australian cricket they don't used to take players who have never failed cause if they are into a really crucial game for the country and fail at the very critical moment then, how are they gonna tackle it if they have no prior experience to failure !?

You can call failures a gift for us cause they give us chance to develop and improve ourselves !
We often keep hearing from our elders that we should learn from our failures and keep moving forward ..

Now let me give u an example of a very famous personality

There is the story that a reporter asked Edison how it felt to fail 1,000 times. His response was that of one who did not regard setbacks as failures. He reportedly answered the reporter, "I didn't fail 1,000 times, the light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps" !

Now, some u will say "its great for them, but i ain't a genius like him"
Well my friends u are forgetting the fact that he was also a normal human just like u guys with ordinary talent and abilities. The only thing which made him what he is is his willpower !

Imagine a continuous series of failures … I bet none of us would have gone further after 4-5 failures but he did !
Thats why he invented bulb and we don't even know how it works !

Far too many people have literally given up on their dreams. They look at their personal setbacks as failures. They see the present circumstances as an insurmountable obstacle blocking them from reaching their dreams. They are tired of trying and so they just give up. There is one sure way of never seeing your dreams come to pass. It is 100% guaranteed. Give up.

Well its true !
See it must have happened to u too that u are studying say Maths ( I found lots of ppl hating maths here so just take it for an example ) and u couldn't understand one topic then ok u forward to next one and u are not able to understand this one also..
So u move to next one and again couldn't understand this one also …

And finally F*** Maths ! I hate maths ….

And these type of things finally lead to what we call Non-IIT syndrome !
which is a mental condition in which a person keeps on saying that i can't clear IIT , i will top AIEEE !

We all know it happens !
Many a time when i was in 12th standard this thought also came across my mind but i was determined no matter what happened i used to keep preparing for IIT … .Well in the end i wasn't able to crack IIT thats the different case !

Now i remember a msg which my dad sent to me when i told him that i don't think this site will run for many days !
It is like this : "It is true that not every effort is converted into success, But it is equally true that success does not come without efforts" !

So remember
In those times when you feel like giving up and you just don't want to try anymore,
Say to yourself, "Keep moving forward," !

If Non-IIT syndrome happens to u then say to yourself ok fine i am not up to the mark for IIT now but i promise i soon will be ! I will crack IIT and thats my promise to myself !

And also never rely on excuses Its like 0h ! I got bad marks because paper was very tough !
No no not at all Excuses will never change your life. Instead, decide each day to keep moving forward. You can choose to not give up on your dreams even if it takes 1,0000 years !

You can be so determined that for you, giving up is not an option.

Lastly i would end with few lines for you :

When faith starts 2 tremble,
When hope starts 2 sink,
When ablities get doubted,
When decisions get questioned,

Then it means
We are Studying! …

Keep TOSSing bbye !

Luck is what you have left over after you give 100 percent.

It may sound strange but unfortunately its true !!!

Well here's a little story about me which i would like all of u to read ….
It goes like this ….

My Name is Jaspreet and I m in DTU (formerly Delhi College Of Engineering) in 1st year doing Electrical and Electronics engineering ….

As all of u i also joined a coaching institute for IIT-JEE preparation which now a days every science stream students does ! My exams of IIT, AIEEE, BITSAT etc all didn't go as i expected…..
But i was happy that at least its gone

0n 26th May, lyk many of i also was eagerly waiting for my JEE results……

But unfortunately i couldn't clear it …..
And BAMMMMMMM !

A huge shock 2 me as well as all who know me !
Wat i did next !

Well i closed my eyes and thanked God and told myself dude don't worry luck isn't with u at present ….. But it will soon be there

The worst thing was ppl asking u hey what Rank u secured and u …well !! its hard 2 say that u failed ……..
After this i though of going 2 VIT cause i secured 2270 Rank there and somebody told me that i cud get anything there !

And at that tym i didn't even have a little bit of info abt all the colleges !
I didn't even knew that there exist a college name NSIT in Delhi !!!

Well anyway so it was that !
After that i was waiting for my AIEEE result !!

I calculated my score and it was coming out 2 be 253 after taking in account all silly mistakes i made in the exam !
But the day the result came !

I got another huge shock ! My score was 207 there and a 10K rank !
and i was lyk

OMG !! a 10K rank !!!
Man !! I think i need 2 drop and that was it !

Again Luck wasn't with me

After that i got info abt NITs from net and decided that to go 4 NITs rather than dropping……. So it was this now !

I m 2 much fickle minded na
Well so as everybody i also went through the procedure and finally in 3rd Round which was last one 4 me cause i didn't want to take risk by going into 4th round !

I got NIT Rourkela Chemical in 3rd Round !
And it was again disappointing 4 me……..

Again Luck wasn't with me ( This is what i felt like yet again )
I asked Anand sir "What will i get in Rourkela finally??"

and he said that " U will get Electrical engineering finally in NIT Rourkela and so i decided to go to Rourkela and leave DCE cause i was getting Biotech there in 1st counseling !!

I was lyk … BioTech !!! no man !

So it was it !
0h i forget 2 mention !

Another story of DCE counseling !
Well after getting my AIEEE result i went to my coaching institute and asked from my teacher , Mr Neeraj Jain

What to do now???
Should i drop ??

And he told me that there no point dropping cause u will get EEE @ DCE …..
And i was lyk wat ???

Is this guy drunk !!!

After that i had a little chat with him , came home and decided finally 2 fill the form for DCE !
And i started researching …..
I asked many ppl including ppl that what will i get in DCE and same reply came from everywhere

" Lower branches " !!

"So that guy was really drunk ! " huh !

That was the thought that came into my mind !
Now coming back to the original story !

Now the scene was i had 2 report to Rourkela !
But i don't know why but i didn't wanna go there for some or other reasons !

It was last day for canceling seats alloted in 3rd round for candidates to be eligible for 4th round and I had a chat with Raj and he told me to surrender my seat !

And finally decided to do it and was finally able to reach the center by 4:30 (5:00 was the closing tym) and surrendered my seat

After that in 4th Round i got NIT Nagpur Chemical and i got Automobile Engg in DCE …..
So i decided to go with AE in DCE and that was it

After that NSIT called candidates to mark attendance to be eligible for further rounds of counseling !!

But i didn't go there thinking that i won't get anything there anyways but after 2-3 days i got news that i wud have got ICE there if i had been clever enough to mark my attendance :'(

And again it was the same feeling !
Man !! Luck isn't with me yet again !!

Well so finally classes started and i though of giving JEE next year also cause i wasn't that much happy with AE branch !!
But after 2-3 weeks !!

Miracle happened !!
It was lyk this

My friend told me that a new upgraded list is out and i asked him to check

4 the cutoff of EE and after what i heard is this !
" Bhai ! Tujhe EC mil gayi !!!! "

And i was lyk WTF !!!
I couldn't believe it untill i saw it with my own eyes !!!

And next thing i did was dance ryt there in front of everybody
And abt 1 week ago i got EEE @ DCE !

Finally i was happy
During this whole thing i realized something !

Man !! Luck was always there with me !!!

All that happened to me was for my gud only !!
Otherwise i wouldn't be doing EEE in DCE !!

Wat if i had gone 2 VIT or Rourkela????

What if i had gone to NSIT counseling ??? I wud have withdrawn from DCE and wud be doing either Electrical in Rourkela or ICE in NSIT !!

And now see ! i m doing EEE in DCE !!!

And i laughed lyk hell
At one tym i was thinking abt dropping a year and now i m here DCE EEE !!!

Luck play serious games sometimes !!
And finally i remembered something …. The drunk teacher !!

I forgot that Drunk ppl always tell truth
And finally i thanked God and my Teacher !!

If only i wud have believed in what he said then i wouldn't have to go through all these troubles !!

"Luck affects everything; let your hook always be cast; in the stream where you least expect it, there will be a fish"

And finally a quote for all of you !

We all dream a lot – some are lucky, some are not. But if you think it, want it, dream it, then it's real. You are what you feel."

The Top Ten Lies of Engineers - By Guy Kawasaki

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 09:32 AM PST

1. "We're about to go into beta testing." This is a meaningless statement because it doesn't matter when you go into beta testing--what matters is when you come out of beta testing. (The only hard and fast deadline for coming out of modern-day beta testing is "before you run out of money.")
In the good old days, "alpha" used to mean "all features are implemented though not necessarily working properly." "Beta" used to mean "there are no more repeatable bugs." Nowadays beta means "we've gone as long as possible past the shipping date that we promised our investors."

2. "I don't know anything thing about marketing..." This is a lie of false modesty. The engineer is thinking, in totality, "I don't know a thing about marketing, but how hard could it be compared to what I'm doing? I should run marketing and engineering. I just hope that the marketing the MBAs come up with is worthy of my code." However, don't worry too much about this lie because it self-corrects as the engineer misses deadline after deadline and comes to realize that he has bigger issues.

3. "I'll comment the code, so that the next person can understand what I did." This is a lie of good intentions. Really, the engineer did intend to comment the code but as the schedule slipped, priorities changed. The question put to management became: "Do you want me to comment the code or finish it sooner?" Guess what the answer was. Luckily, the lack of comments usually doesn't matter because the code is so crappy that a total rewrite is necessary in a year.

4. "Our architecture is scalable." This is the lie that I enjoy hearing the most. Typically, an engineer who has never shipped a product says this after creating a prototype in Visual BASIC. The whole conversation goes like this: "Google's architecture isn't as scalable as mine. They can support 25 million simultaneous searches. We will be able to easily handle a billion."
Luckily, in most cases, the adoption of the product is slower than the CEO's "conservative" forecast, so scalability never becomes an issue. Yeah, those clowns at Google, Yahoo, Oracle, Microsoft, Apple, and AOL don't know anything about scaling compared to the engineer...

5. "The code supports all the industry standards." This is almost a truth but for a short omission: "This code supports all the industry standards that I agree with." The engineer has made a personal decision to ignore standards she doesn't like--for example, those promulgated by Microsoft. It's no big deal--customers will never know...

6. "We can do a Macintosh version right after we finish the Windows version; in fact, much of the Windows code can be re-used because of how we architected it." The truth is that version 1.0 of any software is an experiment. It can be a magnificent experiment, but it's an experiment nonetheless. Thus, Windows version 1.0 is held together by duct-tape. The Macintosh version is a copy of the duct-taped Windows version written by an engineer who just finished college and got his first Macintosh a month ago. How hard could it be to learn to program for a different platform? C++ is C++, right?

7. "We have an effective bug reporting database and system." Of course, the assumption behind the design of the bug reporting database and system is that there are no bugs in the code, so there's not much to database and report. Generally speaking, if the largest number of documented bugs doesn't ever exceed 1,000, it means that the company isn't tracking bugs carefully.

8. "We can do this faster, cheaper, and better with an offshore programming team in India." Rank and file engineers usually don't tell this lie; it's the CTO who does. Somehow we've got it in our heads that every programmer in India is good, fast, and cheap, and every programmer in the United States is lousy, slow, and expensive. My theory is that for version 1.0 of a product, the maximum allowable distance between the engineers and marketers is thirty feet.

9. "Our beta sites loved the software." In twenty five years of working in technology, I've never heard a company report that its beta sites didn't like its software. There are three reasons for this: first, many beta sites are so honored to get pre-release software that they don't want say anything negative. Second, most beta sites haven't used the software very much. Third, most beta sites don't want to seem cruel by criticizing a company's new product. Doing so is as socially unacceptable as telling someone that his baby is ugly.

10. "This time we got it right." The scary thing about this lie is that the engineer really believes it. Again. The problem is that "this time" occurs over and over again. I have great faith in engineers and believe that in the long run, they do get it right. It's just that in the long run, we're all dead.

Facebook - Most Visited Site in 2010.

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 06:14 AM PST

Facebook has claimed the Internet's top spot from Google as the most visited website in the United States in 2010, according to a new study from online measurement service Experian Hitwise. The social networking site, which was the subject of a Hollywood film in 2010, was the top-visited website for the first time and accounted for 8.9 % of all US visits between January and November 2010, reports the Daily Mail.

The world's Internet search leader Google ranked second with about 7.2 % of all visits.
However, taking into account all of Google's websites, such as YouTube and Gmail, it still reigns as the most visited site at 9.9 % of the visits, ahead of Facebook's 8.9 % and 8.1 % gained by Yahoo! sites. Facebook, a site launched only six short years ago by Mark Zuckerberg, has quickly ascended to number one position with over 500 million users.
