Generator Stator Earth Fault Relay (64G) - 27TN.

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 09:26 AM PST

Generator Stator Earth Fault Relay (64G) - 27TN.

Generator Stator Earth Fault Relay (64G) - 27TN.

-For high impedance grounded generators, a voltage relay across the secondary winding of the generator neutral grounding transformer is used to detect the ground fault on the generator stator winding.

-The neutral over voltage function (59N) responds to the fundamental frequency voltage at the generator neutral that appears when a ground fault occurs.

-Normally, it will protect up to 90≈ 95 % of the stator windings.

-The neutral under voltage functions responds to 3rd harmonic voltage measured at the generator neutral. When used in conjunction with the neutral over voltage function, it provides 100% ground fault protection of the stator winding.

-In healthy state, the machine 3rd harmonic voltage is distributed over the windings such that the maximum occur at the star point neutral and at the line terminal. For a ground fault close to the neutral, all the 3rd harmonic voltage is transferred to the line terminals. Consequently, the relay function will see a 3rd harmonic under voltage at the neutral end and will operate the protection element.

Generator Loss of Excitation Relay (40G).

Generator Loss of Excitation Relay (40G).

Electrical Generator Protection Relays.

Electrical Generator is the main source of Electricity at Power Plant, we should make a many methods to protect the Generator from any faults can happen while Operation.
The next figure shows the main single line diagram and Protection Scheme for the Generator.
The Generator made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and its specification as follows:

Power-------------- 440 MVA
Power Factor----- 0.85 lag
Line Voltage------ 19 KV
Frequency--------50HZ
Speed-------------- 3000 rpm
Hydrogen (H2) Gas Cooled @ 4.5 barg.

Generator Loss of Excitation Relay (40G).

If a Synchronous machine losses the Excitation, the following condition will occur:

-When partial or complete loss of Excitation occurs on a synchronous generator, Reactive power flows from the other generator into the generator.

-The KW is controlled by the Prime-Mover input, while KVAR output is controlled by the Field Excitation. If the system is large enough to supply the deficiency in Excitation through the armature, the synchronous generator will operate as an induction generator, supplying essentially the same KW to the system as before the loss of Excitation.

-Since Synchronous generator is not designed for asynchronous operation, the machine output will oscillate slightly as the rotor oscillates in an attempt to lock into synchronism.

-Loss of Synchronism does not require immediate tripping unless there is an accompanying decrease in the terminal voltage that threatens system stability; it generally takes at least 2 to 6 Sec. to lose synchronism.

Data for setting calculations.
Generator capacity-------440000KVA
Generator Voltage--------19KVA
CT turns ratio-------------18000/5=3600
VT turns ration-----------19000/100=190
Gen. Transient impedance--------Xd'=24.8%
Gen. Synchronous impedance----Xd=195%

Relay setting calculations.
Relay Side Impedance
Z=Z% * ((KV2 * 10)/KVA) * (CT ratio/VT ratio)

Setting of small circle.

1-Circle #1 Diameter

Z=100 *((192*10)/440000)*(3600/190) = 15.55 Ω

2-Circle #1 Offset
Z=24.8 *((192*10)/440000)*(3600/190) = 1.93 Ω

3-Circle #1 Diameter
Setting=15 Cycles (0.3 Sec.)

Setting of large circle.

1-Circle #2 Diameter

Z=195 *((192*10)/440000)*(3600/190) = 30.31 Ω

2-Circle #2 Offset
Z=24.8 *((192*10)/440000)*(3600/190) = 1.93 Ω

3-Circle #1 Diameter

Electronic Design Names Magma’s Tekton to 2010 Hot 100 Products List

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 06:27 AM PST

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 22, 2010 — Magma® Design Automation (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design software, today announced that Electronic Design named the Tekton™ static timing analysis platform to its list of Hot 100 Products for 2010. Tekton is one of just three products named in the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) category.

Introduced in March of this year, Tekton is uniquely suited for today's most challenging designs and offers higher capacity and faster runtimes than traditional tools, without sacrificing accuracy. It runs multi-scenario analysis efficiently on low-cost hardware without requiring a large number of expensive servers and software licenses. Tekton leverages breakthrough technology to address complex sign-off challenges.

"It gives us great pleasure to have Electronic Design recognize Tekton as a hot product for this year," said PremalBuch, general manager of Magma's Design Implementation Business Unit. "Design teams have responded positively as well and have consistently told us that Tekton runs significantly faster as a timing analyzer on a single CPU and dramatically faster in a multimode, multicorner analysis on a multicore machine."

Tekton was featured in an article titled "Chip Layout, Implementation Add Significant Muscle," in Electronic Design's Dec. 9, 2010 issue. For details on Tekton, please visit www.magma-da.com/tekton.

Presence of Mind

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 04:57 AM PST

Once, a dog lost his way deep into the jungle.
He almost fainted to see a lion coming straight to him at a very near distant
"I will be dead today" , thought he. There were some bones lying over there.
He turned his back towards lion and started pretending as if he is eating those bones.
When lion was very close to him he cried out loudly
"Wow, what a fun eating a lion, by chance if I can get another one, it will be a treat ".
Lion thought "What a dangerous dog!!!!! He kills lions and eats it.
Let me run away from here and save my life ".
Now, there was a Monkey hiding on the tree there watching the entire show.
He thought "It's a good chance to tell the truth to the lion.
Lion will become my friend and I will not have to run saving my life from him ".
He just ran away to inform the entire episode to Lion.
The dog had seen him going and quickly understood the play.
Both lion and monkey were coming back to the dog and the lion was furious.
When lion was very close to him he again cried out loudly

" It has been half an hour and yet that stupid monkey can't fetch another lion??!!!!"

Moral: "It is by presence of mind in untried emergencies that the native metal of man is tested."

Summer Training

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 03:49 AM PST

Sir/madam,
I'm a II year student of Mechanical Engineering In NIT-Warangal. Training is not compulsory in our college after II year, but i wish to utilize my time by spending my summer 2011 to learn something new. I'm interested in Alternate energy & Renewable Energy Systems. But i do not have any idea as to where or how to apply. I would also like to add that I've done foundation course in CATIA in the previous summer. I would prefer doing training in the fields mentioned if my CATIA skills can also be enhanced in the process. Otherwise also i'm very fine with whatever comes my way.
Please help me in this regard.
Thank You.

Low Power Rf Module Required

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 03:02 AM PST

Hello,

I am looking for an RF transceiver with very low current consumption. I am currently working on an RF based Automatic Meter Reading Project (AMR). We are looking for 433MHz Modules.

The modules that i have found so far have around 15-20mA Current consumption while transmitting. I am looking for a RF module with transmission current consumption less than 10mA. The required range is 100m.

My requirements are:
Frequency: 433MHz
I(transmitting) < 10mA
range>100m

I have no financial constraints in this regard. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You
