| NetLogic Microsystems Selects Magmas Talus IC Posted: 07 Dec 2010 07:29 AM PST SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 7, 2010 Magma® Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design software, today announced that NetLogic Microsystems Inc. (Nasdaq: NETL), a worldwide leader in high-performance intelligent semiconductor solutions for Internet networks, has selected Talus® for implementation of its next-generation knowledge-based processor and physical layer products. This expands upon the relationship between NetLogic Microsystems and Magma Design Automation, as NetLogic Microsystems has successfully taped out designs in process nodes ranging from 130 to 40 nanometers (nm) using Talus Vortex, Talus Plan Pro and Talus Power Pro. Talus' proven ability to address advanced design challenges and Magma's ongoing commitment to providing world-class support were cited as key influences in NetLogic Microsystems' decision. "Our knowledge-based processor products employ an advanced, massively parallel processor architecture along with a large knowledge database that makes complex decisions about individual packets of information traveling through the network. Our next-generation 28-nm designs have extremely challenging floorplans and tight timing closure requirements," said DimitriosDimitrelis, vice president of engineering at NetLogic Microsystems. "Magma has worked closely with us over the years to understand and actively respond to our unique needs. With Talus' high-quality placement, clock tree synthesis and post-route optimization capabilities and Magma's commitment to providing the support we need, we have a high level of confidence in using the Magma software on our next-generation designs and beyond." NetLogic Microsystems announced earlier this year that it has expanded its collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) as a 28-nm Early Development Partner. NetLogic Microsystems has launched advanced product development for several of its industry-leading product lines on TSMC's NEXSYS 28HP (28-nm high performance) process node. The 28HP process offers significant speed, and power efficiency advantages over previous process nodes. "Close collaboration with leading-edge customers over a long period of time provides us with keen insight into emerging design challenges that we can then apply to our own product development," said PremalBuch, general manager of Magma's Design Implementation Business Unit. "We are excited to expand upon our relationship with NetLogic Microsystems to now include the advanced 28-nm node." Magma Talus IC Implementation System Magma's Talus IC Implementation System is a fully integrated RTL-to-GDSII solution. The most important elements of Talus for NetLogic Microsystems include the placement technology, clock tree synthesis, and post route optimization. The placement technology was enhanced for NetLogic Microsystems' challenging floorplans to provide optimum routability, the lowest pin access congestion and the highest potential for timing closure. This allows designers to meet top-level timing goals and ensure that total chip area is minimized. Talus' clock tree synthesis balances the requirements of a robust clock tree (balanced latency and managed skew) while minimizing clock buffer area. Intelligent, activity-driven clock gating with closely coupled placement algorithms result in industry-leading clock performance with the lowest power metrics. Timing closure of designs at 40 nm and below must be validated under many scenarios. Talus addresses this with a comprehensive multi-mode multi-corner (MMMC) post-route optimization engine that optimizes across all active corners and still ensures that all timing, leakage and limit requirements are met without using punitive margins and overdesign. This technology was enhanced in the latest Talus release based on the collaborative work with NetLogic Microsystems to meet their very aggressive requirements on the number of sign-off scenarios. About Magma Magma's electronic design automation (EDA) software provides the "Fastest Path to Silicon" and enables the world's top chip companies to create high-performance integrated circuits (ICs) for smartphones, cellular telephones, electronic games, WiFi, MP3 players, digital video, networking and other electronic applications. | New Seminar Topic Idea: 4G Network Posted: 07 Dec 2010 06:52 AM PST Those who are looking to present a seminar and need an idea for topic - you can talk about 4G network. There's lot of search going on and the standards have not been finalized. There are few networks in the USA that are offering 4G data services. I think it would be an interesting topic. |

| TradeDoubler Delivers Geo Targeting Posted: 07 Dec 2010 03:00 AM PST London, UK - 7 December 2010 TradeDoubler, the number one pan-European performance marketing company, today announced the launch of its new state-of-the-art Geo Targeting solution, based on latitude and longitude data. As the industry's most advanced geo targeting solution, advertisers are now able to better target localised ads to users in specific regions, drive greater online conversions by targeting customers in rural areas, find potential customers even when they are accessing the Internet from abroad, and deliver a higher CPM for publishers. As part of TradeDoubler's world class One Network, the powerful Geo Targeting solution delivers complete campaign set-up to reveal new market opportunities, which can be leveraged in the run up to the important Christmas period. Unlike other geographical solutions that use pre-defined regions, TradeDoubler's easy to use Geo Targeting solution enables advertisers to literally draw boxes around areas they wish to target, as narrow as down to block level in some cities, leading to more exact targeting. "We have been working with TradeDoubler for several years and are very pleased with the results obtained through display campaigns. We recently booked a GEO-targeting campaign for LänsförsäkringarVärmland and saw an increase in the number of sales for the insurance put on display. This result proves that the right banner showed to the right target audience in the right geographic location works", said Anders Tufvesson, Web Strategist at Two. "Increasing online conversions is all about reaching target customers more effectively," said Michel Lazecki, Network Product Director for TradeDoubler. "Geographic targeting has been available for some time but until now, it hasn't been as accurate so has had limited benefits. Our new Geo Targeting solution changes all that by taking location-based intelligence to the next level. The ability to define custom targeting areas enables advertisers to promote very local offers with greater precision, relevance and accuracy to drive online traffic into offline stores or reach customers in more remote, rural areas." TradeDoubler's Geo Targeting solution leverages the market's most reliable mapping technology combined with internet access points that are updated monthly to deliver the exact physical location of every Internet Connection Point available. The new solution has already been successfully deployed in the Nordics with significant interest from agencies, advertisers and publishers looking to maximize their Christmas retail opportunities. With its extensive reach in 17 countries across Europe, TradeDoubler delivers 32 billion impressions per month, reaching 154 million unique users and generating 10 million leads every month. The Group offers unrivalled access to more than 76% of the European online audience through its publisher networks, which comprise more than 128,000 active website publishers and in excess of 1,800 advertisers. About TradeDoubler TradeDoubler is an international digital marketing company offering a range of performance-based marketing solutions. | Engineers Turn Robot Arm into F1 Ferrari Simulator Posted: 07 Dec 2010 12:58 AM PST Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, in Tübingen, Germany, transformed an industrial robot arm into a Formula 1 simulator. The video above shows what it's like to turn the KUKA 500 into an F1 car. You can hear the loud whine of the arm as the driver takes the curves in the simulation of the famed Monza track. The 3D visuals of the course were created by Robuffo Giordano's colleagues Joachim Tesch and Martin Breidt. Not bad for a DIY arcade game. |

| Final Year Project Idea: Self Powered Exercise Cycle Posted: 06 Dec 2010 10:03 PM PST I've often noticed during my cardio workouts that the cycle needs external supply. I was wondering whether it would be possible to cut down the power supply and make the cycle generate its own power. I don't think it's very difficult task. You simply have to generate enough power to light the LEDs. Share your opinion. |
