Logical puzzle - The question about the answer

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 10:21 AM PST

Hey,
I think at least some of you guys might have come across this particular logical puzzle, called the Blue eyes puzzle.
The question of the puzzle is available here: Blue Eyes puzzle
And, after messing your brains up on the solution, you can see the answer here: Solution

Even after getting the solution, this puzzle gives me more stuff to think upon. Go through the solution page and see the one contradicting question asked there :
What is the quantified piece of information that the Guru provides that each person did not already have?

Now this is the question I too have about the answer. It seems a bit confusing. Any thoughts, guys?

Signing Of ARMO And Bankers Agreement

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 07:45 AM PST

Albania's leading oil company ARMO and the Bankers Petroleum company have signed a long-term cooperation agreement in Tirana guaranteeing the supply of ARMO refineries with crude oil that Bankers Petroleum extracts in Albania.
The agreement, signed by the presidents of two companies Mr Rezart Taçi and Mr Abby Badui in the presence of the Albanian Vice Minister of Energy Ministry Mr Sokol Dervishi, creates a new dimension in the Albanian hydrocarbons market.
Under this agreement "Made in Albania" hydrocarbon products will not only better utilised but they will be cheaper for the consumer.
"The innovative features of this agreement are that the Bankers Company will be guaranteed the sale market, and the ARMO Company will be provided the first feed and as a result a lower cost of oil by-products, better prices in the market for the consumer, new working places, and more revenue for the Tax Authorities" commented Mr Taçi.
For Bankers Petroleum Mr Badui said: "The agreement that we have just signed with ARMO is very important for us as we have the possibility of sending our products to ARMO's refineries. Two features are very important. Firstly the agreement is a long-term one, and secondly as it is a long-term agreement it guarantees equivalent prices with international markets."
Energy Minister Mr Dervishi commented: "It is an advantage not only for both companies - for Bankers and ARMO as a refining company - but it will also mean a profit for the state economy as at least the refined production will create more jobs bring more income to the community and even for the economy of the country in general. It will also help the balance of trade along with other effects that will come because of connection to this agreement."
Under this agreement ARMO, a company which for several months has delivered European Standard by products such as blue-diesel, is now realising its ambitions to increase production capacities and bring European standards in production.
"After a year of investment in its technology ARMO has achieved a decrease in the amount of sulphur by 97%. This is next to the European community's standards. Another innovation is the production of blue diesel with a percentage of sulphur of 10 milligrams per kg. Based on these investments the result is that all by-products have been certified by European community standards," said Mr.Taçi
Since its privatisation, ARMO has paid special attention to environmental protection along with better working conditions, improvements in production quality and a decrease in refining costs.

IITs, Innovation & Their Contribution To Indian Technology Scene

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 05:20 AM PST

This debate is all about Indian Institutes Of Technology (Now several of them), their contribution to innovation and Indian Technology Scene. The IITs are famous as for producing world class engineering talent. The IITs are often compared with universities like MIT and Stanford of the West. However, I see a huge difference.

Quite often, I come across innovations, technological advances made by MIT, Stanford and other colleges in their league. But seldom from IITs. Obviously I'd like to believe that, I might be missing out on something or the media isn't bringing the innovation from IIT to public notice. I often wonder how have IITs contributed to Indian Technology Scene.

Do you think IITs have contributed significantly to the Indian Technology Scenario? Or do you believe that IITs have become producers of talent only to be utilized by foreign companies?

Rechargeable battery charging

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 11:03 PM PST

Hi,
What will the charging current do after the laptop battery is 100% charged? I do understand that the battery will no longer be charged. Conservation of energy states that energy cannot be destroyed. So what happens to the electric energy? Where will it go after 100%?

Entitlement Mentality - A must read for all of us

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 10:56 PM PST

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company.

He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision.

The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.

The director asked, "Did you obtain any scholarships in school?" the youth answered "none".

The director asked, " Was it your father who paid for your school fees?" The youth answered, "My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees.

The director asked, " Where did your mother work?" The youth answered, "My mother worked as clothes cleaner. The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.

The director asked, " Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?" The youth answered, "Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me.

The director said, "I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother's hands, and then see me tomorrow morning.

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid.

The youth cleaned his mother's hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother's hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother's hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future.

After finishing the cleaning of his mother hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.

That night, mother and son talked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the director's office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth's eyes, asked: "Can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?"

The youth answered, "I cleaned my mother's hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes'

The Director asked, "Please tell me your feelings."

The youth said, Number 1, I know now what appreciation is. Without my mother, there would not be the successful me today. Number 2, by working together and helping my mother, only I now realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done. Number 3, I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationship.

The director said, " This is what I am looking for in my manager.
I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of
others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired.

Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company's performance improved tremendously.

A child, who has been protected and habitually given whatever he wanted, would develop "entitlement mentality" and would always put himself first. He would be ignorant of his parent's efforts. When he starts work, he assumes that every person must listen to him, and when he becomes a manager, he would never know the sufferings of his employees and would always blame others. For this kind of people, who may be good academically, may be successful for a while, but eventually would not feel sense of achievement. He will grumble and be full of hatred and fight for more.

If we are this kind of protective parents, are we really showing love or are we destroying the kid instead?*

You can let your kid live in a big house, eat a good meal, learn piano, watch a big screen TV. But when you are cutting grass, please let them experience it. After a meal, let them wash their plates and bowls together with their brothers and sisters. It is not because you do not have money to hire a maid, but it is because you want to love them in a right way. You want them to understand, no matter how rich their parents are, one day their hair will grow gray, same as the mother of that young person. The most important thing is your kid learns how to appreciate the effort and experience the difficulty and learns the ability to work with others to get things done.

Google +1 | Google Plus One | @ Google | At Google | Emerald Sea = Social Google?

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 09:07 PM PST

Something's cooking up in the building 2000 @ Google Campus (Called Googleplex). Sergey Bring (Google Co-Founder) and Vic Gundotra (VP) are involved in it. Is it a twitter killer or a Chrome plug in - no one knows.

The project is internally called "Emerald Sea" and it's most probably the social product being developed by Google. There are several names being considered and "Google +1" will most probably be the final name of the product. In its current state, Google +1 is said to be a toolbar that appears across many of Google's services.

If you have any information about any of the above, please let us know through this thread.

Google Cloud Picker is Google's Cloud File Storage Product

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 08:58 PM PST

Google seems to be testing a cloud storage product and calling it 'Cloud Picker'. The tool is linked with Google accounts login. When few users tried to upload files to their Google sites, this tool popped up and asked for login with Google accounts.

When users tried to login with their Google Apps accounts, it did not let them log in. When logged in with Google Accounts, the tool asked for profile details and personal settings. It's being learned that the Cloud Picker allows users to store videos, photos, documents in the cloud and make them searchable.

I look forward to your comments about the cloudpicker.

Google Chrome 8 Released. Secretly.

Google has released the next stable version of Chrome. They made no big announcements, just a simple post on Google Chrome Release blog.

The Chrome team is happy to announce our latest Stable release, 8.0.552.215. In addition to the over 800 bug fixes and stability improvements, Chrome 8 now contains a built in PDF viewer that is secured in Chrome's sandbox. As always, it also contains our latest security fixes, listed below. This release will also be posted to the Beta Channel.
Now, as I'm writing this (from Firefox), Google Chrome is updating itself to the version 8. If you are a chrome user, check your browser version. Chances are that Chrome will begin updating itself without your permission.

Question About Phone Expandable Memory (microSD)

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 08:18 PM PST

Let's say a phone has 8gb of internal memory and supports upto 32gb through microSD. Does that mean the phone will support total storage space of 8+32 = 40 GB? Or does it mean that the total memory cannot exceed 32GB?
