Electro-mechanical solenoid for robotic shooting mechanism

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 03:45 AM PST

Actually I am designing an electro-mechanical DC solenoid to be used as the shooting mechanism in a robot. It has to strike a ping-pong ball. Can I use a permanent magnet in place of a ferro-magnetic core?? if yes, then which option would be better?
