| Major difference between oscillator and generator? Posted: 02 Oct 2010 01:11 PM PDT I heared Oscillator is a device which generates sinewaves signals and generator is one generates sawtooth, triangular or square wave.IN functions we use generators to produce electricity, and i think electricity is generated in sinewave so why it is called generator or electricity is not sinewave signal???what is reality u think? |
| Posted: 02 Oct 2010 12:13 PM PDT I have not been so active in the discussions as I should be since the start of this year and I realise that I don't know many members who have joined in the last 6 months or so. Therefore, I will take a few minutes to re-introduce myself before I plunge into the ocean of CE. :p I am Prateek aka Patty and as you can read I am a mechie. Now bring on the discussions, I am ready and I am back ;) ........after I have had my beauty sleep |

| Where can you get free downloadable engineering Ebooks? Posted: 02 Oct 2010 11:32 AM PDT Engineering is a big matter, so some of the following sources of books may not have the specific engineering topic in which you are interested. If you are interested in computer and Mechanical engineering books, there are more sites than I listed. Out-of-copyright books that can be downloaded, including engineering books, are available at Project guru engineers, Google Books (choose the Full view option for downloadable ones), and Internet Archive. The ones providing books still protected by copyright, such as O'Reilly and National Academies Press, are not offering all of their books as free downloads, so you may need to browse the subject to find free downloadable ones. | Posted: 02 Oct 2010 09:35 AM PDT Technology Robotix Society invites all robot enthusiasts to ROBOTIX 2011. Robotix is Asia's largest college level robotics fest held in IIT Kharagpur during its techno-management fest Kshitij from 28th-31st Jan 2011. Robotix 2010 was a success with a participation from over 450 teams with over 2.5 lakhs worth prize money being distributed.Robotix is set to return in 2011 with more challenging events and over 3 lakhs to be given away in prize money. Our events this year are *Pirate bay *- This is a manual event that takes you right into the pirates' playground. Through the course of three exciting rounds, the bot will have to traverse through different type of terrain, climb mountains and release fellow pirates. *Robocop*- It is an outdoor image processing robotics event. Participants will compete to build a fully automated robot that acts as a law enforcer. *R.A.F.T*- An event that tries to help in the major challenge that is flood relief. The task is to build a manually controlled robot or a group of robots which can navigate a raft on water and retrieve people *The Negotiators*- This event requires the participant to write and submit a computer program, which will be pitted against programs written by two other participants in a game of negotiation. *The Fugitives*- You have to build multiple autonomous robots that catch and disable the "fugitive robots" moving randomly through the arena. *Ballista*- Participants have to build an autonomous robot capable of detecting and shooting projectiles avoiding any detection by the enemy. Further details are available on our website. If you have a doubt please post it on our forum. Robotix 2011 | Where Machines Dare.. The ROBOTIX Team |
| New Concept by Airbus: A transparent airplane! Posted: 02 Oct 2010 08:06 AM PDT Airbus MUST BE gathering some best brains to do some seriously cool stuff like this. They are thinking of a futuristic craft that would comprise of a lightweight ceramic material where in at the push of a button, passengers could send electricity through a cabin's ceramic exterior thus causing a chemical reaction that renders the ceramic transparent. :o (I mean wow! What a concept!) Not only would passengers be able to see completely out of the side of the airplane but also directly above and below! :D Among the other features planned for this yet unnamed aircraft are:
What a flight it would be! ... I am already imagining things. What do you think CEans? Will this concept come into reality? Is this feasible? If yes, what's your take on this? :) |
| Posted: 02 Oct 2010 07:50 AM PDT We have discussed a lot many times about creating posters of CE to attract engineering students. We also have volunteers on CE who are ready to stick the posters in the colleges of their area. All we need to execute this task are great-looking, attention-grabbing posters. ;) So CEans, let your creative juices flow again and make some really cool poster/banner designs. Size doesn't matter. (It should be large enough) Points don't matter. (If we are used to CE, we know what to put on the banner to attract engineers) So, Share your ideas and designs too. :) P.S: I am attaching my design in the following post. |
| Facebook and Skype to integrate voice chat, SMS!! Posted: 02 Oct 2010 07:37 AM PDT I heard that all Facebook users now soon you will be able to send SMS, messages and hold voice chats using the Skype interface, as Skype would become a Facebook Connect member. Is this true? |

These are questions that plague everyone around the world. Newly launched startup Inveni exists to weave the interests we've expressed elsewhere on the web into a fabric of intelligent movie and television recommendations. Inveni's technology attempts to build personal taste profiles for members and then use that data to predict other things they might like. Inveni's recommendation engine also factors your friends and other member behaviors in to the equation with the hopes of making better, more personalized product recommendations. The company is starting with movies and television, but will eventually graduate to other product areas. Check out their website at www.Inveni.com And let your reviews flow in. :) |

| Verizon Wireless Trade-In Program Posted: 02 Oct 2010 06:59 AM PDT Verizon offering money for used phones Here's how it works: You check Verizon's trade-in site, and do an online appraisal of the phone. You give the phone's make, model and condition Like: can the phone "make outbound calls with a calling plan?" "Does the display work?" "Is the display cracked?" We have too many old ones stashed in drawers around our place. Verizon's program is a feel-good one for getting rid of the clutter. It's all handled by mail - they'll send you a postage-paid envelope -and it's easy. Even if you have a phone that winds up having "no appraised value," it can still be sent in for recycling, Verizon says. Great initiative! :) What say people? |
