*Real* Email Conversation Between Steve Jobs & Chelsea Kate Isaacs

Posted: 21 Sep 2010 10:14 AM PDT

It's well known that Mr. Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Inc. randomly responds to emails and does it in his own 'style'. Following is one recent email conversation -

Africa Challenges Western Dominance of Defence Industry

Unveiling Paramount Group's new IED protected armoured vehicle

Cape Town, South Africa - 21st September 2010: African defence companies are challenging the dominant Western suppliers such as BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin for the same contracts - and they have emerged as technological equals with a wide range of defence and security systems. Some of these systems - including one of the world's best IED protected armoured vehicles (MPVs) - are set to be unveiled at Africa's largest defence exhibition Africa Aerospace & Defence (AAD) in Cape Town, September 21st-25th.

Ivor Ichikowitz, Executive Chairman of the Paramount Group, the largest independent defence and aerospace contractor in Africa, said: "The world has finally discovered that Africa has some of the best technologies at affordable prices. We have an amazing skills base, we are home to some of the best engineers in the world and they have developed technologies which are used globally and save lives every day."

Being unveiled for the first time at AAD will be the Mbombe - a brand new armoured vehicle of innovative design offering better protection against IEDs than many vehicles currently used by NATO forces in Afghanistan. Coalition forces have thousands of armoured vehicles in Afghanistan and Iraq, but Paramount Group has designed a groundbreaking new vehicle that is set to take the market by storm.

Mbombe is a six-wheeled infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) with a revolutionary mine-resistant flat hull (rather than v-shaped). This means that it has a lower profile than typical MRAP vehicles, a solution which has been sought for many years.

Ivor Ichikowitz commented: "With African defence spending up nearly a third since the end of the Cold War, Africa is purchasing more defence and security systems. This has stimulated manufacturers, engineers and scientists to produce world-class products."

The Paramount Group is at the forefront of this growth and has seen its sales increase by 20 percent year-on-year during the last five years. Over the past 12 months the company's workforce has more than doubled to meet the demand for its range of MPVs that provide some of the best levels of protection for soldiers in conventional conflict and in counter insurgency operations.

Mr. Ichikowitz continued: "Combined with greater political stability and economic growth this has enabled companies such as Paramount Group to establish themselves as world class suppliers of military vehicles. Ultimately, this means Africa can now compete with the major Western suppliers and export abroad. The defence and aerospace industry is an asset of the African continent and our vision has always been to use it as a driver for growth and development as Africa moves into a new era of optimism and opportunity.

African companies such as the Paramount Group are not only competing on an international level, with interest from governments in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, but also offering better in-country benefits for purchasers. Whereas the Western majors manufacture their equipment far from the destination market, Paramount Group takes an 'in-country' approach, where it establishes production facilities in regional markets. This ensures that the economic and development benefits associated with production, training and marketing help the local population, not just the shareholders in New York or London."

Mr. Ichikowitz concluded: "With Africa now home to some of the world's best protected vehicles, these are exciting times. Africa is establishing for itself a lead role in innovation, security and as a major contributor to global peacekeeping."

Partnership between Elekta and INFORM results in shortlist place at the European Supp

Posted: 21 Sep 2010 08:59 AM PDT

21 September 2010 - Human care company Elekta has been shortlisted in the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2010 for its "Mission Control" initiative after achieving parts availability above 99 per cent. Recognised by the judges as an innovative supply chain practice, Elekta partnered with INFORM, a developer of supply chain optimisation software, to deliver this outstanding result.
Elekta provides treatment technology for treating cancer and brain disorders, so machine downtime is unacceptable as it could have serious consequences for patients' health. Parts must therefore be available locally, at short notice. Elekta has implemented INFORM's add*ONE Inventory Optimizer software solution within the "Mission Control" project which has resulted in parts availability above 99 per cent and inventory reductions of 13 per cent globally in a very short timescale. This has meant that even with a 25 per cent rise in stocked lines, cost savings of over £1 million have already been achieved, with more to come.
"INFORM's technology has enabled us to predict fluctuations in customer demand and ensure that each of our warehouses around the world continues to stock the right parts, at the right levels," explains Nigel Weston, vice president of supply chain management for Elekta. "add*ONE Inventory Optimizer proposes cost-optimised replenishment which has reduced our overall stock levels and saved us a significant sum."
As a result of the "Mission Critical" initiative, Elekta has improved its customer service levels and is now able to offer enhanced levels of customer support. The inventory reductions achieved over the last 12 months are only the start of the transformation journey and it hopes to reduce this by a further £1 million by the end of 2010, while maintaining 99 per cent stock availability. The money that has been saved as a result of the initiative is being pumped back into Elekta's research and development programme.
The winners of the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2010 will be announced at an awards dinner on Thursday 18th November 2010.

Multi story parking under bridge !

Posted: 21 Sep 2010 07:32 AM PDT

hi , when i was sleeping one day , suddenly i got an thought of a under construction bridge when it was 1 am , and i daily used to see that bridge as it falls in the way of my college. And the thought was initiated from heavy traffic parking problems in that area, and i thought why not to build a system which can park the vehicles (LMV) in the empty space under the bridge. And when next day i go to college i observe the peak height of the bridge which was enough to shade three cars under one side of the bridge.
So i would like to know views about my this idea from all my fellow CEans.
I will wait for your reviews my friends , till then bye.....

ripple factor for capacitive filters

Posted: 21 Sep 2010 05:30 AM PDT

sir,
we have a formula for ripple factor for capacitive filters..
r.p=1/(4.s.r(3).f.c.R)
SO...FOR HAVING LOW RIPPLE FACTOR,we need to have load resistance more..
so a capacitive filters is used for low load currents...

here my doubt is keeping load resistance minimum and taking high value of capacitance too,we get low ripplefactor...right sir..??
then why dont we prefer high capacitance value..??
