Respected Fellow Ceans and Moderators. I request you to help me out in this confusion of mine. I am residing near chennai doing my final year engg in E.C.E. I have a doubt on whether final year projects are available along with internships if so how am i to contact them. And does my value for the project add on the certificate issued by the centre or my idea of the project. Which holds the maximum value and how am i to proceed with it. Thanks in advance.

I posted this thread here because i was confused on where to post it.

IE9 Promises Beautiful, Rich & Immersive Web: What do you think?

Posted: 13 Sep 2010 07:46 AM PDT

IE 9 is all set for public beta release on September 15th. Sure thing we'll download it and post a detailed review; but it would be interesting to know what our CEans think about IE9 and what their expectations are.

Microsoft has failed to deliver quality with previous IE versions and the competition is eating them out with faster and lighter browsers.

CEO S. Gopalakrishnan says: Infosys to cut US revenue share to 40%

Posted: 13 Sep 2010 07:45 AM PDT

According to Infosys CEO, the Company wanted to boost revenue from Europe to about 40 per cent of total income from 20 per cent, while other markets would account for 20 per cent, up from 15 per cent.

He further said that clients continued to spend on technology, despite recent reports that spending may be slowing. Although spending had become decidedly short-term.

The Company clearly aims to diversify its revenue streams after a year during which Europe's downturn made the company even more reliant on the United States.

JPMorgan and UBS may ban BlackBerry

Posted: 13 Sep 2010 07:40 AM PDT

JPMorgan Chase & Co. and UBS are considering allowing employees to access corporate email using Apple iPhones.

A switch by these banks would be a further blow for Canada's RIM, whose shares have slumped recently after certain countries have threatened to ban the Blackberry whose design does not allow them to monitor phone traffic.

A silly doubt regarding nomenclature of systems

Posted: 13 Sep 2010 05:31 AM PDT

This may sound silly, but please let me know which of the statements is true.
a)A 11/33kV transformer has a 11kV primary and a 33kV secondary
b)A11/33kV transformer has a 33 kV primary and 11kV secondary
I have been taught and that option a is true, but in our firm, i saw a few papers in which they mentioned option 2. When I asked them, they told me they are not sure themselves. Please help. I am in deep trouble.:(

ip.access announces increased R&D capability

Posted: 13 Sep 2010 03:32 AM PDT

Cambridge, England and Pune, India: September 13, 2010: UK-based picocell and femtocell developer and manufacturer, ip.access (ip.access: the leaders in picocells and femtocells for optimized GSM, GPRS, EDGE & 3G network coverage - The home access femtocell extends your 3G coverage into the home. -), today confirmed it has secured a dedicated R&D centre in India in partnership with worldwide business services company, Quickstart Global.

Based at the Quickstart Global centre in Pune, the ip.access facility will initially number some 10-15 staff but is expected to grow to 40 dedicated R&D engineers by the end of this year.

Announcing the move, ip.access Chief Operating Officer, Philip Rimell said: "We see this new Pune centre as a great opportunity to extend our product development capability in order to best serve the needs of our customers and the market worldwide.

"This will be a focused development centre, leveraging the wealth of engineering talent that is available in India and complementing the work of our long-standing Indian partners, Aricent and Sasken."

Securing a dedicated R&D resource in India is the second piece of good news for ip.access in the region. Earlier this month the company announced it has won a contract with leading Indian operator Bharti Airtel to supply its nanoGSM picocells for deployment across the country.

The picocells will be used to boost both in-building coverage and capacity within business premises and other busy indoor locations throughout India.

"India is a vibrant and burgeoning wireless marketplace – both in terms of usage and in terms of development," added Mr Rimell. "We are delighted to be involved in this growth both as a supplier of services and as a creator of opportunity. By this time next year, I expect some 80 people will be located at the Quickstart Global R&D centre for ip.access in Pune."

Neal Gandhi, CEO of Quickstart Global said: "Our In-House Anywhere model was set up to enable companies such as ip.access to create centres of excellence using local talent without the headaches involved in setting up their own operation overseas.

"We understand how important it is for ip.access to have an R&D team working under its direction and supporting its market requirements. We look forward to a long partnership and to establishing a support centre that will help ip.access not only achieve its goals but also provide valuable employment opportunities locally," he added.
